    I have a ? about primer types

    Hey all,

    I'm getting ready to reload some M1 carbine and 357 Magnum rounds. I went to a gun show 2 weekends back and bought some Wolf small rifle primers. I had asked the dealer for 2K small rifle and 2K small pistol magnum but I got 4K small rifle instead. {at least he didn't charge me for half of the primers}

    Now since the M1 carbine is "suppose" to have the same characteristics of the 357 Magnum, my question is....... can I substitute the small rifle primers inplace of the small pistol magnum primers??

    Your thoughts would be deeply appriciated and if anybody in the Riverside / Brea area would like to do a straight trade {2K factory fresh small rifle for 2K factory fresh small pistol magnum} I'd be happy to meet with you.

    this has been gone over, (I know the search sucks) but SMR are not the same size as SMP, I would not do it.

    if you were anywhere near Sac I would do a trade .....

    Bump for you, hope someone can help.

      I don't think that the primers are going to work or be the same for .357 and .30 Carbine. As pdq said, don't do it.

        Who said the 30 carbine was like a 375 mag? The 30 carbine is much more anemic when compared in similar barrel length guns.

          In short, no.

          When it comes to reloading, load data pretty much needs to be followed precisely as written. Occasionally there are little exceptions, but it's good that you asked. It's always better to know and not make mistakes, than to be ignorant and dangerous.

              aside from possible pressure issues you might get misfires due to the stronger primer cup in the rifle primers
