Finally, I've decided to bulk load 223. I've been loading small batches on a single stage but have a Dillon 650 I would rather use for plinking ammo. Got tons (maybe 4000 pieces) of brass, but most are crimped LC, once fired. I've already bought the bulk Sierra 1000 pack of 53gr bullets and now need a quick and easy way to remove that darn primer pocket crimp. I thought about getting the Dillon Swager, since I use and love Dillon stuff, but don't know much about them so don't know what the best tool for the job is. Experiences with the Dillon Swager or others?

Bringing this thread back from the dead! So aside from the Dillon tool, what else are our options? I'd rather blow $85 bucks on components or toolheads and dies than the swager.Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.

I simply bought the Lyman crimp removal tool.. unscrewed the cutting head from the handle and chucked it up in my Mikita drill and used it that way...Lyman tool is something like $18 or so......'Just Don't Point, Squint, and Laugh! '

I might have to find something like that but I think I'd need to get a single stage press to use it. It won't work on a Dillon right? IIRC the RCBS one has the little nipple thing on a shell holder type setup right?Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.

The RCBS works to remove the crimp, but the way you get the case off the crimp head is 'rough'. You basically use force to 'kick' the case off the press ram. I no longer have the kit (sold it after I got the Dillon), so I can't record a video demonstrating it.
But here's some pictures (click for 1024x768 resolution):
If you look at the swaging button, you'll notice there's a collar that goes over the ram. When you bring the ram back down, the collar hits the press frame which then has no where to go but up as the ram keeps going down. This action will kick/eject the case off the swaging button.

Of course that's the best suggestion as the 1050 swages every case that goes through it.
However, I also have a simple method for removing crimps that almost anyone with a case trimmer and deburring tool can do.
Using the pointed end of the deburring tool, simply deburr the edge of the primer pocket until the crimp is gone.
It only takes a couple turns, much like deburring a case mouth, but you push harder on the primer pocket.Randall Rausch
