    Is e-Bay nuts?

I have been trying to find a Dillon Square Deal for my son serving in the Coast Guard. Just for grins I have been following e-Bay auctions for the Dillon Square deal pistol reloading press. I think you can buy these new for about $349. The last several USED Square Deals auctions have sold for $325-$345, NOT INCLUDING $25 SHIPPING. Seems nutz that people would spend more for a used press (including shipping) than they would to buy new press from Dillon. The very most they save is $10-$20 over the price of a NEW one. I guess Dillon will rebuild it for nothing. Still, I just don't get it.

It's not just Dillon products, I sold 2 Lee presses each for just about what you could have purchased a new press for. They are crazy but I love them because I make some money in the long run.

Yup, I don't know what it is about ebay, but folks on it would rather pay close, if not more than retail for many items.

I figure that perhaps they are simply hooked on the auction thing.

      It's definitely nutz.

Its the bidding thing. People start out to get a bargain and then get a "I gotta get this one" attitude. Have you ever been to an equipment auction? It is amazing what an auctioneer can get for pure junk if he can get two or more people with the "I gotta get this one" thing going.

There is very little on E-bay in the way of decemt used stuff people genuinely want and is available new. A few used, some abused, and the rest is new from dealers who have to make the same as any other dealer, plus pay the ebay commission and then add shipping and "handling." Since there are no bargains in the new catagory, people tend to overspend on the used and abused.

Finding items that are otherwise unavailable or not normally stocked is my use for E-bay.

I agree w/ you on that. People want to see that
          "You Won!"
Won my butt. I'd like to see them on occasion, say,
          "You Paid Too Much!"
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

some people just like the little accessories that they often have with them

some may like the protection ebay and paypal provides some may like the shipping policies of the ebay seller

It's a bidding thing. People get carried away and HAVE to be the top bidder.

I've been seeing an ad on Craig's list for a Leed 4-20 production pot. You can get these new from Midway for about $60 ish shipped, the guy keeps listing it for $75. This is for a used production pot.. not new. wth?

Reloading stuff seems to go for top dollar if it is anything that is at all desireable, I paid nearly retail for a used Redding powder measure on ebay. With the Dillon stuff it is even worse since I believe Dillon will warranty anything that they make. You buy a press or what have you on ebay and Dillon will fix it for you if there is anything wrong or broken, at least that is my understanding.

I used to sell BANKS POWER stickers on ebay for $10-$45.

I used to get them from work when we did an install,I had a tool box drawer full of them maybe 25 stickers. I would sell them 2 at a time. I would only list 1 set at a time to keep from flooding the market. Eventually I ran out and needed more (we did not sell much BANKS products as they suck) I went to their website and ordered 50 more at $3 a piece. I miss that sweet extra income. Remember people are stupid.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

A lot of people get into that competitive thing on ebay, win at any cost. It sucks if you get into a bidding war with one of them when you're bidding on something unique (I had to buy some old lathe parts when I was restoring my South Bend lathe), just have to walk away. I've also gotten some screaming deals on ebay. I don't bid on things I can get for the same or similar price through normal channels (no point in that).

I'm glad ebay is out there, I've picked up some items that I'd never have found without ebay. But you have to use your brain......
