Warning for Reloaders!

I believe many people have seen various firearms that were "blown up" because of reloaded ammo. Here is another one. This is a relatively expensive Italian target over and under shotgun that was apparently "blown up" like a detonation. No blockage in the barrel. I have this shotgun in my possession. It is amazing to find out that the shooter was not seriously injured. Thanks to the very strong receiver of the shotgun.

The story was that an old man's grandson was helping to reload the shell. I believe there were several factors involved in the "accident". We, reloaders, should be really careful when we reload. When I start to reload, I do not leave my reloading station and complete the loading before I leave. And, nobody handles my reloading equipments.

Check your powder's condition, use right ones. Watch for powder charge.

I say if you assemble ammo, you better have your mind on the task at hand or it's your asprin and perhaps the fellow to the left or right of you at the range.

I even have a "Do Not Disturb" sign going out into the garage for the XX's benefit. Even after explaining multiple times about how their disturbing me could have catastrophic consequences (to me at least) I still get the "I don't care I need you to do something right now . . . " At least I know where their priorities are.

I could not agree more with "full attention" to detail in reloading. When my press starts cranking my family know's not to disturb me.

If my kids or wife are home, I like to put on my shooting muffs, to even tone out the background nice as well. I like to reload in silence, just me and my thoughts about the process atm.

This is one of the reasons that I'm glad that I'm semi-OCD. It may irritate those around me, but when it comes to the details, everything's got to be near perfect for me.

My wife understands the concentration needed when reloading, and won't even allow the dogs to come into the garage when I'm doing anything reloading-related.
