Picked up a couple of boxes of 5.56 Military ammo Marked MK 262 5.56 MM long range. Anyone know about it. what it's worth, Use ???

It's just a 77gr BTHP (most likely a Sierra Match King). That specific ammo was originally designed for mid-range use and in so-called Designated Marksman Rifles (DMR).

Loaded to higher pressures than commercial 77gr factory loads (i.e. Black Hills).

It's worth about as much as any other 77gr ammo out there.

It's the standard issue ammo used by many of the military High Power teams, although the USMC teams appear to be using MK 294 MOD 0 which is a molycoated 77gr BTHP.

There are links from the sticky thread "77gr 223/556 reloading recipe" about this particular ammo.

It is basically match-grade 5.56NATO loaded with 77gr Sierra Matchking HPBT bullets.

Worth the same as matchgrade 223 ammo.

Generally used with Mk12 SPRs; but seemingly, performance out of shorter barrels are superior than M193 or M855.

In general? Well, the people who use moly like it because they feel it gives extended barrel life and allows for longer periods between cleaning intervals.

I was talking with a Marine Corps shooter on one of the teams and he told me they were shooting the MK 294, but still shot naked 80s on the long line, which made using moly sort of worthless. From what it sounded like, their long line ammo was also provided.
