    Using De-Primed Primers

I just purchased a ton of brass and most of it was primed but with no record of with what.

Is it safe to de prime it with a universal de primer and use it for some standard moderate charged plinking rounds?

I'd say use it with loads on the low side.

Or if you want to deprime, wear eyes and ears and go slow.

I say those primers for plinking/target ammo. For me I load upwards of 1K a month if not more, no need for me to load anything more then a medium load.

Yesterday was interesting, I used my Wolf primered rounds I had left over from the Zombie shoot we had and 90% of the brass ejected landed in my brass box. I usually do not shoot at ranges with walls so it was neat to see them land in the box after firing them.

        VERY SLOW!!

Also, why would you buy stuff and not know what the components are?

Purchased a ton? Didn't hear about that in the Wall St precious metals report.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Well maybe not a ton but it was an entire pickup truck full of brass it took me three trips to just clear out the reloading room.

If you want to deactivate the primers, oil will work. I'll bet that's a good use for WD40.

But I'd use the brass as-is, just work up a load. What caliber are you talking about? You can work up a load just like you would if you were changing primers. Just watch for the usual pressure indicators. Who knows? You might have scored!

A pickup bed full of brass?? Geez, I thought I was bad!

I don't know if I am just lucky or what, but I have deprimed lots of live primers and never had one go boom. I do were safety glasses and go slow and steady in the press. hell I have even done this with primes I put in upside down.
They are much more stable than one would think. Just were your glasses and don't have open powder / more primers sitting close by.

It is incredibly hard to deactivate modern primers.

A number of people have tried this. Get a bunch of primers, keep them soaked in motor oil for a while, load them in empty cases, most of them will go pop.

why not use the primed cases to make pinking ammo?

decapping live primers will not make them go off.. you are pushing against the anvil the wrong direction needed for them to go off.....
