Need help choosing a powder scale

I'm new to reloading and gathering up equipment while I wait for my backordered primers. I will be loading mostly 45ACP on a progressive press to start, but also 9mm, 40S&W, .223 and .308.

I'm trying to narrow down the choices for scales. I tend to lean toward the buy once, cry once end of things. I'm open to electronic or beam and I want something that I will not outgrow.

    Electronic?

I've thought about getting the RCBS Chargemaster but I'm not sure if I'm anywhere near ready for that.

What is your favorite scale and WHY do you like it?

    Thanks in advance!

I have been reloading for ~20 years and have always used a 5-0-5

I would like to get the Chargemaster but $$$ is tight and I would rather buy powder, primers ect......

forgot I like beam scales because they work also if you are going to use a progressive press then why speend the $$$ for a charge master? It would be great for loading lots of .308 at a time but I don't think you will be checking each charge with the handgun loads......

I have been loading for 20 years as well. I just changed from a Dillon Eliminator to a Jennings JS-VG 40Digital Scale.

It is worth it. Quick check after each adjustment.

      Very accurate.

I just use a cheap jewler's scale I got from ebay for $20. It is accurate enough for me, and I get a great shot groups with my reloads.

I have been using a 505 for 15 years and never had an issue with it. I just got a Dillon D-Terminator electronic 6 months ago and have not used tht 505 since.

I have two 5-0-5s on my bench and one of them is older than most posters here. The second one is fairly new, I bought it in 1981.

I also have a chargemaster that I use for rifle rounds.

DO NOT buy a Pact II electronic, I have had one for sometime and it has turned out to be a real POS. Erratic and the maker will not back it.

Can't use it with cell or wireless phones around, nor with florescent lighting as it throws it off, I turn off the phones and use the scale be flashlight......if that conjures up a good image, then you need to buy one of these scales.

I've been pretty happy with my Chargemaster, I wish I hadn't waited so long. I do keep my RCBS 505 as a back up.

I've gone through several different electronic balances before finally getting a Denver Instrument 123. If you want the best get a DI. IF you want the most convienent, get a Chargemaster. In either case, you should always have a beam balance like a 5-0-5 or 10-0-10 on your bench to verify that your electronic balance is working properly.

Another vote for the RCBS 5-0-5. I also have a PACT BBK electronic scale that I use to double check my loads.

                              Hi PDQ,

Too bad you're up north. Shipping would put it close to the price of a new one I think.
