Whats so special about IMI ammo?

Wideners has been saying its coming for the last 2 months and they finally got it.

Whats special about it?

nothing really, but the brass is on par with LC durability, so you'll get some good reloading luv from the empties

Israeli military ammo. I guess that's supposed to indicate to the prospective buyer that the ammo is not of low quality.

Probably crimped primer pockets, so you'll have an extra step in case prep, swaging or reaming the cases first.

IMI is approved and qualified to produce ammo for the US military.
It's about the only NON-USA manufacturer that the US govt will buy ammo from.

If I wasn't reloading I'd buy that. I once bought 600 rds of the IMI .223. Shot a 98 with 4 X's in the offhand position. The other shooters were offended I did so well using surplus. That stuff shoots great. That was 7 years ago.The cost of a 1200 rd case then was $269. It's a good buy

Back in the 90's I bought 2,000 rounds of IMI 44 mag ammo from one of the huge online vendors , at the range I experienced a squib load ...the bullet lodged about 4 inches down the 9 1/2" barrel of my Super Redhawk .

Never before had I ever experienced a problem with factory ammo ( Nor my reloads....this factory squib was my first ) , a wooden dowel and a hammer later I was back in business. Then it happened again, I said thats it....this ammo is all getting pulled apart....set it aside for quite a few years and then bought one of Hornady's Cam Lock bullet puller just for the purpose of pulling these IMI bullets.)

Upon pulling the bullets, about one or 2 in each 50 round box would have what looked like wet powder...where the ball type powder would stick to the bottom of the bullet and to the sides of the brass even after being dumped out...with visible wet like clumps in what I dumped out. So the primer was firing, and whatever loose dry powder that was inside was igniting...but the rest didnt ignite...hence the squib.

I salvaged the bullets and brass....fired the primers off in the wet rounds and kept the dry primed brass to reload. Needless to say I never bought IMI again.

Was it this?

AR15 is right, IMI is the only foreign ammo that the US will trust to make service ammo.
The IMI brass is one of my favorites for reloading .45ACP.

No, these were very nicely packed factory boxes from The Sportsmans Guide ( Still in business I see... http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/ ...but I havent bought from them since the late 90's ) ....very strange because the contamination of the powder had to have been at the time of loading because the IMI ammo had the red sealant on both the bullet and the primer as well as the primers were crimped in )

I still have the cases, 2,000 brass IMI...reloaded around 3 or 4 times...will take a picture in a little while ...the headstamps say IMI 44 REM MAG.
