    Another noob with questions...

Hi All. I've been reading Calguns for a while and just signed up. Over the past months, I have slowly acquired reloading equipment and recently received primers. My question pertains to the size of bullets for a given round. I know the diameter of a .223 bullet is actually .224. What about 45 acp? Hornady is giving away 45 cal bulets with .451 diameter. Berry's are .452. Is this because their bullets are plated over lead and a lot of lead 45s are .452? Which is the correct bullet for 308 Winchester? Hornady is giving away 30 cal .308 bullets. http://hornady.com/media/get-loaded-stay-loaded.pdf Are these the correct ones? The reason I'm asking is because when I go to Graf's website >> rifle bullets >> 30 caliber (308), I see some for 30-30. Are there different 30 caliber bullets for 308, 30 carbine, 30-30, 30-06, etc.? I looked in Lyman's Reloading Handbook and still not sure.

I picked up very helpful info from members of Calguns. Thanks and thank you in advance.

    • 45 ACP uses .451" bullets. 45 Colt uses .452" bullets.
    • 308 Winchester uses bullets that are *drum roll* .308" diameter
    • 30 caliber bullets are 30 caliber bullets. However, a 30 caliber bullet of a certain weight might not be appropriate for a certain cartridge. A 168 gr bullet that works great in .30-06 would not be appropriate for use in a .30 M1 Carbine. But the 168 gr bullet is not specific to .30-06 because it can also be used in a 308 Winchester cartridge.

Get several reloading manuals and stick with the recommended bullets listed for each cartridge.
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Get a load book from a National Brand (Hornady, Sierra Etc) to read and stick with a known load before attempting to buy off brand bullets (not in load manuals) The sizes are listed in the book. You should know this before attempting to load. There is a whole process for reloading and you can't skip ahead. PM me if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help a beginning reloader.
