Different primers in the same box?

I'm new to reloading for rifles. Today I opened a box of winchester large rifle primers and was surprised to find about half of them had different anvils. Half had the 3 legged anvils and the other half had 2 legged anvils. Is this normal for Winchester to sell different primers in the same box? How much will this effect my loads? I know the pictures suck but all I have right now is my cell phone.

Keep the lens at least the minimum focusing distance away from the object being photographed.

Yeah I've go through 1000 Winchester LPP and never noticed this. Maybe I will just wait until I get my wolf primers next week.

But if I do that they just look like little dots way down there, its a crappy camera.

Just call the Manufacturer if in doubt, they are usually very helpful. Have the lot #'s handy

I have used a lot on Winchester primers but never seen that before. It would definitely raise my suspicion. The ones with the three contacts with the red I identify as Winchester but I wouldnt use any of them. Did you buy these as seperate 100 packs. If so, they might have gotten mixed up buy the retailer..

I'de be concerned based on the color difference more than the anvil. They is a good chance you have mixed primers there.....wonder if they are even all from the same manufacturer?? I believe the color (within the same manufacturer) will differenciate its application, whether a rifle or pistol primer or magnum or not.

when in doubt, chuck it all out. No sense in risking your life on questionable components.

Thanks for the replies. I bought them from a local gun dealer. I only bought 100 it was the last box of LR primers they had. I guess they probably got mixed up at my local shop although I don't really see how that would happen. I'm just gonna wait for my wolf primers that are supposed to arrive Tuesday.

My money is on a mixup at the local store if you bought a loose box of 100 and not the factory.

Yeah, actually now that I think about it its not the first time I had a problem with primers from that shop. I bought 1000 LP primers a while back and when I got home and opened the box I found 500 LP and 500 SP. I immediately took them back and they apologized and gave me the right ones.

Find a different shop or if you don't shoot in volume, get on a group buy and split the cost with other shooters.
