    Crimp groove and OAL

I'm reloading 30-06 and my first loads with a Hornady 150 fmj-bt. When I seat to the crimp groove my cartridge is short of the recommended OAL. Should I ignore the groove and seat at the recommended OAL? and if so why is the groove there to begin with?

It's there for people that like to crimp. You don't need to use it.
