    Noob question.

    Ok,
My first loading press just arrived from the UPS man. I am going to go out and get some dies now. I have been reading and reading and think I have most of the basics figured out. However, I have one quick question.
I am going to start out with .308 reloads for my Fulton Titan.

Do I need a "small base" die set for this rifle or can I use a standard "full length" sizer die?

From my understanding of what I have read the tighter the chambered brass fits, while still allowing the rifle to functioning, the better. This is why bolt action fired brass is only neck sized if it will be refired in the same rifle? I want the best accuracy possible as I mostly taget shoot this rifle prone or from the bench. I do not want the load ammo that jams though. So do I go standard of SB?

    Thanks CGs,
    Noah

Only use small base dies when regular dies give you feeding problems. Most of the time sb dies are not necessary. Enjoy the new hobby.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

Rull of thumb is use small base or NM dies with semi-autos; regular dies or N/S with bolt guns unless your bolt gun has a match chamber and then use a NM die. YRMV
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

So does a NM die size somewhere in between SM and standard sizing dies?

i have always bought full length dies because after the second reloads it takes alot of force to rechamber the cartridge. so i full length resize them after that.

Well I decided to try the RCBS X-die. I searched google for a while last night and found several people using "normal" full length resizing dies having sucess in their DPMS 308s, so I decided to try a normal size before going to the SB. Hopefully I don't get burned. The DPMS and Fulton rifle parts are all compatable but I do not know if there is any difference in the chamber specs between the two brands. I will definately post my results here.
