Digital or Beam scale?

Which would you recommend, and why?

Both. Get a cheap digital jeweler scale for quick measurements, case sorting for rifle, etc. Beam scale for accuracy.

I personally sold my rcbs 505 and got a small digital jeweler scale. It hasn't failed me yet and it's pretty accurate...

yup i bought a lee and a jewlry digital i checked the digital against the lee and it seems spot on it kind of wanders when i leave it alone for a minute though so for testing i put a case on hit tare then fill case place back on scale

if i wait a while and put the same case on the scale it says its like 1 grain heavier without doing anything

Both! I don't feel there is any reason not to have both. I have a few beam balances and one good electronic balance. I've gone through 4 or 5 electronic ones and finally bit the bullet and got a Denver Instruments one! IMHO, DI is the only way to go for repeatability and accuracy.

I use both as each have a valued function. Digital scale is good for speed. I use my balance scale for accuracy. I regulary check my digital scale prior to using since it's a cheap one.

I have a RCBS Chargemaster, which I would recommend highly. It is as, if not more, accurate than my RCBS beam scale, which I keep as a back up. The Chargemaster sure sped up my reloading output.

I like the beam scale. Simple, quick and reliable. Doesn't need to warm up.

I've got an old Ohaus 505 that sits on the bench as a backup, and an RCBS Chargemaster 750 that has always proven to be dead on (at least to 500 grains) when using RCBS check weights.

It's nice to know I've got the balance beam scale if power ever goes out and I don't have 9v batteries on hand... or if the RCBS scale dies, like all electronics eventually do.

PS. I have owned (and would NOT buy again) the Frankford Arsenal digiscale that is often found on sale at Midway for ~$25. It times out too quickly and uses up (expensive) watch batteries far too quickly, though it's accurate with fresh batteries.

I am a Califronia state licensed scale repairman, I use a Rcbs digital (looks to be made by ohaus) and as backup I have a Rcbs 505 .
The digital always checks out within .1 at 250 grains , Never needed to bust out the beam.

Get a beam scale for pistol rounds. You will use this for double checking the loads every few hundred rounds to ensure consistent powder accuracy..

And get a digital one for your rifle rounds that need INDIVIDUAL loading. The RCBS Chargemaster with the RCBS Chargemaster Dispenser, are awesome.
