What is wrong with this stuff? No one wants it can be had everywhere it seems when nothing else can be found. Any personal experiences of why you dont like it?

Has a reputation of being too slow to penetrate/expand reliably.
I pulled it from my catalog due to lack of sales. -
Good question, while i have never tries 147gr, the 124 grain bullets cycle my Beretta M9 much better than 115gr. I just dont think there is as much reloading data out there for the 147grain bullets.

I put Winchester 147gr subsonic silvertips in my SD magazines. Picked 'em for low chance of overpenetration and potential kindness to my future hearing should they need to be employed in a small room without ear protection. Haven't ever tried to recover a bullet or anything, but the reviews are decent and they feed reliably and go where pointed from both my 9MMs...
I've also reloaded a couple hundred 147 truncated cone bullets over Accurate #2 and plinked with 'em -- gun shop in Tucson had a couple bags on the clearance table -- again, no worries.Comment

As always - it depends. RangerT 147 gr in on "THE LIST" of recommended 9mm loads. That is what I use as my current SD load.
Some others - not so much.
Double tap makes 147 gr. load that is an absolute killer ( pan intended )
147gr @ 1135fps using Speer bullet....... when I'll replenish my "gun" fund I will switch to it as my primary SD ammo.

I used to shoot a lot of the moly-coated cast 147's. They can be real tack drivers, well under 2" at 25 yards with the right shooter, gun, and load. It's a nice action pistol load, takes down pepper poppers quick and easy. The factory 147's I've shot are also very accurate.

I have always thought that the 147`s were too slow and that the ideal would be a 130-135 gr. loading as in the .38 super.Comment

The only thing wrong with most 147gr loads is they are subsonic (~1000fps). The original heavy bullet (158-147gr) loads were designed to for suppressed SMG's. Law enforcement followed that pattern for no rational reason and that is what the manufacturers made.
You load them up to 1150-1200fps and they are FINE.Luck favors the prepared.

They are long (FTF issues), and get driven slow (penetration issues) and
"little 9's" don't like them.

I'm not sure what you are saying. SAAMI has a maximum OAL for the 9mmP, right? 1.169", IIRC, going by memory as the manuals are out in the shop. The 147 loadings don't need to exceed the SAAMI maximum OAL, in fact I load them a bit shorter than that, going by memory about 1.135" to 1.145." The 115 and 125 loads are shorter. IMHO if the gun won't shoot SAAMI sec'd ammunition, it's a gun problem. One can overcome that by using ammunition that won't jam, of course.
Several of us used to shoot 500 to 1K 147's per week, zero issues - again matching the round to the purpose. Saying the 147's suck in the article? Please....

Not splitting hairs, just someone that knows what they are doing....
Only been reloading 35 years or so, started my machinist career at Star Machine Works. We made reloading equipment and and cast bullet lubricator/sizers. Even Dillon got his start in the business making accessories for Star equipment.

Winchester 9mm Ranger SXT subsonic 147 grain JHP performs fine. I have seen plenty of proof in real shootings.Comment
