Mrs. Megan, i selected the areas i am comfortable in helping out with. Since the SF Bay Area consists of a rather large area (ie it can take up to an hour and a half to travel in each direction) I would like to suggest breaking it down into how craigslist has it, south bay, northbay, east bay, etc. I am in the south bay and do not mind driving within a 30 minute drive to help out wherever I can. But I definitely don't want to drive as far away as San Francisco to teach a free class. Just my thoughts on the subject ma'am.

Same here too I am in the East Bay next to Oakland and to get to Tam's area it takes about an hour from here. So I have to agree there, main thing is to get it set up and going.

Since it looks like I will be coordinating this event maybe I can have some input on it. Those who are interested in teaching if I can get the following information from you:

              1) Do you have a place to teach (if not how far are you willing to drive to teach)
              2) How many students can you teach in each session
              3) Would you like another reloader/assistant teacher with you
              4) Where are you geographically located so I can better match you up with students
              5) Best time and date you have open for teaching
              6) Contact info so we can ask each other questions and get better coordinated. I have Gio's number already.

For those who want to learn:
              1) Can you offer up your place to hold the class if not how far are you willing to drive to learn?
              2) What are you interested in reloading ie. caliber, gauge, etc.
              3) What do you have in terms of equipment

That is all I can think of for now.

I may be able to offer some space on the weekend in Pittsburg, it will depend on when we're doing this.

                    Hello, Megan, Gio, and all,

As I mentioned in the other 'reloading clinic thread', I can ask the board and membership of the Rifle Club about hosting an on-going reloading clinic programme at the old San Jose 10th St. range.

I would propose that the Rifle Club 'sponsor' a reloading clinic by providing free use of the facility, and ask any Club members who are interested in participating in such an event to provide presses and other equipment.

There are existing benches at the range which could provide space for three, maybe four, light presses, and a long counter-top area which could provide space for tumblers, etc.

I have a spare bench here which is not in use at the moment, which could be kept in a storage container at the range, and brought into the range building as needed for reloading events. This bench is heavy, and would need to be carried by two *strong* people. Its weight/mass is good, tho, for providing a stable mounting for presses.

I can provide the use of an old 'Texan' turret-press, suitable for handgun calibers (this is a 'pet' tool, one of the uncommon old high-quality ones, which works quite well) and a RCBS 'Rock-Chucker' large pattern press, suitable for '06 and similar rifle cases. I could also provide the use of various powder-measures and other tooling, as needed, and a suitable collection of clamps to secure the presses down to the benches.

(One thing occurs to me.......I have one of the old electric arc-marking tools, the type used at the old Winchester plant to number the bolts of Model 70 rifles to the receivers.

It might be a useful idea to discreetly mark tooling, dies, etc. with the owner's initials or logo, to be certain that any one person's equipment won't be confused with another's, considering that there are plenty of presses, powder-measures, dial-calipers, etc., which look pretty much the same.....it could be a needless tragedy to have two people each sincerely thinking 'this one is the one I brought' about any one piece of equipment, when loading-out at the end of the event.)

So.....how many of the readers here might have an interest in a reloading event at the San Jose 10th St. range?

Of those, how many, if any, are willing to handle moving a heavy bench, do clean-up at the end of an event, arrange for 'group buys' of tumbling-media, powder, primers, projectiles, and whatever else may be needed to make such an event practical to do?

I already have a commitment for another range event, so I'm not willing to do an extensive commitment for this event, other than providing the use of some equipment......someone else from the Rifle Club would need to be willing to have charge of supervising the event.....but I can think of two Club members who may well be willing to take that job, if asked nicely.

(edited....note that I didn't check the 'have facility' box above, as that is subject to a vote of the Rifle Club membership. An item of concern will probably be some form of 'hold harmless' document to be signed by those who participate, to protect the Rifle Club should anyone make any sort of mistake which could create a safety hazard, etc.)

                    cheers

                    Carla

Im in San Jose and a get together at the 10th street range or other local range would be great. I'd also be willing to help with set-up and breakdown and believe I can find 1-2 others who would be interested and available to help as well.

Carla if you can get us access to such a facility we can get this set up alot faster. Let us know and I will see about getting this worked out. I would also like all the helpers and teachers that can attend this workshop to maybe get together so we can work out a course schedule and see who has strengths in what area and divide the students up into proper sections.

Maybe a clinic in most desired counties would be great. I live in Solano Co and it would be very convernient not to travel to SF etc...but if I have to I will travel

What aspects of reloading are folk interested in? There are many way to skin that cat depending on what you want. I could do a cameo appearance on the art of sorting brass by wall thickness or neck turning and trimming with a hand driven Forrester trimmer... I'm betting most folk wouldn't be interested.

                              Mike,

The impression I have is that the event should be set up for 'newbies', to get them squared away with the basics of making up high quality standard loads in such cals as 45ACP and 9MM, and, possibly, case inspection/length-trimming/primer pocket swaging as needed to reload '06 M2 ball or 7.62 for local match use.

At some point, tho, after the newbies are doing well with standard loading techniques, your offer to teach the 'fine points' of best quality load work would be a wonderful idea......there is a lot to know about the fine points of developing accuracy loads, and we don't want to 'over-load' the newbies. The fine points should wait til they've gotten the basic knowledge/skills 'down pat', in my opinion.

                              cheers
