    Subsonic ammo

I have an ammo question. Does anyone know anything about subsonic ammo? From what I understand, it is primarily sold to LE (and according to Federal Ammo Co., currently DHS). Specifically, Federal 9mm 147gr.

Also, what about the grooves running down the bullet on some hollow points? Some seem to go 1/5 to 1/4 down; others go almost all the way down. Lastly: the difference between those where the inside of the HP (black part) looks more "crater-like" and others it goes deeper----more "tunnel-like".

    Thanks

Most 9mm 147gr ammo is subsonic. It is a piss poor performer against humans at that velocity. Crank up the velocity to be effective and it's not subsonic. Subsonic ammunition isn't anything elite or special. 45 ACP is subsonic in all 230gr loads and most 200gr loads.

The hollow point cavity and scoring on the jacket promote expansion and control it in different ways. Every manufacturer has their own way of doing things.
