    .380... Why so rare?

I obtained a box of .380 the other day, because my friend had one that he had been unable to find rounds for. Turns out he ended up trading the thing for a 9mm due to the poor suplies in the meantime...

Why is this stuff so hard to find? Oddball round?

Funny... for awhile there, .380 was all I could find on the shelves (and I'd leave them there - I don't have a .380). 9mm and .45 were(are) the rare ones.

Things have gotten a little better recently, I think.

.380 is the same diameter as 9mm, and they say that all machines that could be used to make .380 can also make 9mm... So when the demand for 9mm skyrocketed, all machines that could make 9mm were switched over to do so leaving the .380 rounds to die in a sea of demand.

That makes sense... Thanks. Funny that a bunch of new .380 models were released at the worst possible time...

I agree... 9mm is back and dare I say, "readily available" in most stores (at least around Long Beach) .45 is still rough unless you can afford the match stuff.

Demand for .380 rose when the LCP was released and a few others followed. The political scare a year ago caused demand to exceed supply. It's coming back in spurts.

.380 is a girls gun. it's what my mean little Cantonese wife uses one. They're not really worried about firepower they'll just do the Mogadishu necktie starting at around crotch level. she says

The scheduling and amount of .380 ammo to manufacture was set up over a year ago. I hear from the Manufactures

With the new women in shooting, a lot of .380's (handguns) have been sold. my really mean little Cantonese wife loves her Sig 232.

Yeah, but the prices seem to be about double what it was before, in some cases...

                Anyone else noticed that?

The reason is because of all of those little un-registered Mouse Guns that are
                  everywhere.

That and even the Crips and Bloods know Obama may end up taking their guns and they
don't want to run out of ammo for their Ghetto Blasters.

Well, those UMC "250 Round Value Packs" DO seem to be pretty spendy...

250rds of .380auto ammo in the same box!?

That would be like seeing a Dodo bird around my parts.

If you need .380 and want to come out to Canyon Country, you're more than welcome to use my 550 or 650 and load a couple thousand rounds some afternoon. I can even sell you the brass cheap! You will just need primers powder and bullets. Hell, I'll even give you the few hundered bullets I've got.

I spent quite a bit buying some inflated .380 at Sports Authority. Anyway, I ended up with enough to satisfy me for the time being--especially since I'm after .40 S&W now.
