Looking into buying a Dillon 550B

I just sold my 550B to upgrade to the 650. Nothing wrong with the 550 and it was a great first progressive press. If you do decide to upgrade down the road, the 550 (along with all the other Dillon presses) holds its resell value so you're not out that much money.

Big difference too is the case feeder. If you want a case feeder, get the 650 from the start. It's much smoother than the 550. The 550 was not designed for a case feeder, one was designed afterwards. The 650 was designed to accommodate a case feeder from concept.

The case feeder seems to be an almost required feature on the 650. If you don't have one you slow the operation down seating a casing. With the case feed and powder check you can haul *** I'd imagine, whereas on the 550 you have to visually inspect for the correct charge. Inspecting charges and seating cases probably slows down the operation by 50-75% or so percent.

First I was looking to spend around 200 dollars on a setup. Then 500. Now possibly 1000! If I get the 550, 1000 dollars should include a stockpile of materials for my first few thousand rounds.

Still torn between the 550 or 650, but since I only shoot about 200-300 or so rounds every two weeks, I'll probably go with the 550 to save a bit of cash. I'm not looking for high volume reloading. I just question the future of the sport and possible future gun control measures, and want to be able to be self sustainable. Saving a bit of money eventually and making quality ammo are pluses too.
