I never concern myself with a single pound because I buy 8lb jugs.
You get around 2000 rounds per jug so I order 5 jugs and 10,000 primers at a time from powder valley to fill up a hazmat tag.Randall Rausch

I'm lucky enough to be able to order by the drum for $12/lb shipped.
+1 on maxing out the haz mat. I can't remember when the last time I bought just a pound of powder.Comment

Thank you for the input!! It really helps. I am trying to justify the cost of reloading. I am in the process of working out the finances and was just curious about how many rounds I would get on average per pound. Does it matter if it is disk shaped or ball shaped powder? Is 1 grain = 1 grain regardless of shape?"The longer it takes, the better it will be." (Tom Blake)

There are 7000 grains in a pound and 437.5 grains in an ounce.
It takes a bunch of actual powder GRANULES to make a grain.
Using Varget as an example, it takes about 30 granules to make 1 grain.Last edited by ar15barrels; 10-07-2009, 5:15 PM.Randall Rausch

If you want to calculate the cost per round, here's a great, easy to use calculator.
