Accurate hunting rifle v surplus military gun.

Tighter tolerances v looser tolerances. It's possible the brass is thicker than most other brass, but not likely...

I think I read somewhere Winchester brass is thickest. How's that stuff run in his 700?

Thanks Jason for the Quick answer

Thats what I was thinking but before I zipped out a quick answer / I wanted to throw it out there and run it up the flagpole

I'll ask him how it works in the 700

As expected, the semi-auto rifle has a looser chamber than the bolt gun.
The brass was not sized enough for the 700, but it was sized enough for the semi-auto.

Tell your friend to adjust his sizing die to push the shoulder down some more for the 700.

FR-8's are bolt guns if Im not mistaken. The only thing I would suggest you check as well is the seating depth of your bullets, it may be that the FR-8 has a longer throat than the 700 and the bullet is being jammed into the rifling. Just something else to check.

Is your friend trying to chamber 7.62x51 ammo in a Model 700 chambered in 30-06 caliber?

I seen that too, a 308 in a 30.06 is not going to end well. an .06 is 7.62 x 63 mm in metric.
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

I have a picture somewhere of one of those I found in a hunting camp...

The 308 shoulder and neck all become part of the 30-06 body.
