Anything Wrong With Reloading This Brass?

Just getting ready to start reloading. Ordered all the compenents I needed. I was taking a look at the brass I ordered and some had these little "dents" in them? This is supposed to be once fired brass I purchased. Hopefully the pics come out ok. I am not too worried about it, just seeing what you guys thought. What would of caused that? It seems as though only that brand has them. I purchased 500 of various brands.




Also I already read Reloading ABC'S, great book very informative. I can't bealive how much info it had. I always though ammo was ammo What would you guys suggest as a second book? I want to read another one before I really start doing really anything.

No, they're fine to be reloaded but I think you need to adjust your sizing/depriming die. Unless I'm mistaken, that's what's causing those marks.

Turn you decapper out almost all the way, run an empty, spent case all the way to the top of the die and then turn the decapper down until it just barely ejects the spent primer. Those marks should stop appearing...

Lee's factory crimp die does that to 223s.

It's the factory crimp.

Make sure to measure them after sizing, they usually need a trim because the Factory crimping really works the brass at the mouth more than a standard crimp method does.

I actually haven't sized these, this is how I got them. I sort of had a feeling this was due to them being crimped, but being new to this I wouldn't know. Thanks for the info.

They are, I measured them and some where over size already, good eye

well after loading 3000 on a single stage press and trimming every one of them with the horrible lee trimmer i have a kind of eye for that little ratio between top of the shoulder to the mouth and the width of the neck

i used to trim everything now i caliper them all and only trim if they are over 1.756 some people even let them go longer since theoretically when you seat a bullet the mouth opens a smidge and case oal shrinks minutely and books say 1.760 is max but most chambers have a bit more room

Factory crimps look like that. Size, trim and load. They're fine.

looks like factory crimp to me. After you size and seat your bullet it should almost go away. If not, they will for sure be gone after you shoot them once.

This is why I don't use the Lee factory crimp die.
I don't like my cases to be jacked up like that.
