What is the most common mistake that could lead to a safety hazard while working with a progressive loading machine?

The drawback I see with a rookie jumping right in on a big progrressive like a Dillon 650 is that you don't know what you don't know.

Dillon progressive presses are very complicated beasts. Start small, learn the fundamentals and then move into a progressive press once you feel comfortable with your ability.

Jumping onto a Dillon 650 for your first reloading experience would be like trying to fly a 747 with no prior aviation experience....

Well I don’t have a 650, but I do have a 550 and more than welcome to stop by and try it out??. I can setup some 40, 30, 357, 38, etc,etc and you can see how it all works or doesn’t work for you??

The drawback I see with a rookie jumping right in on a big progrressive like a Dillon 650 is that you don't know what you don't know. There is a lot going on in one stroke on a Dillon and you might want to get set up with a good single stage press first. Learn the fundamentals and recognize the details that can bite you in the ***.

The 650 can be used as a single stage press by simply removing the index cams from the side of the press.
I recommend new reloaders do this and load their first 500 rounds as a single stage or turret press before going full progressive by re-installing the index cams.

A double charge or a squib load.
The powder check station combined with auto index basically eliminates those dangers though.

I think the comment was more truthful than sexist, it's not like Women don't think Men have their issues.

As a beginner (I still am one) wanted to jump straight to a 650. I'm pretty meticulous and mechanically inclined, but I figured why the heck not start with the Rock Chucker Supreme that ar15barrels recommended. If anything I would only be out $115 and I would probably keep it for my .30-06 reloading.

Months later I still haven't bought the Dillon. I'm having tons of fun trying different powders, bullet weights, types of bullets, OAL. I understand if you just need cheaper ammo, but I'm glad I went this route. Once I have all the recipes for all my babies I'm sure I'll move up, but right now I'm having fun.

I have researched women on the internet a LOT and I still don't understand them.
I find the solution is to jump in tounge first and let the particular sample tell you what it likes.

And, by the way, less time 'RELOADING your gun on the internet' and more time socializing with people may help!!

My first reloader was a 650.
Just be sure you understand every aspect of reloading before you start.
If there is any doubt as to what you are doing get on the internet and do research.
Never assume anything.
You'll eventually develope a system that works for you.

First off, I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else. But come on, all you would have to do is replace the word "reloading" with the word "women" and it would still be very sound advise. Right? I've never met a woman who would not agree with that. Maybe you should read some of my other posts where I've praised the shooting abilities of women. The ones who take it seriously and end up becoming competitive shooters tend to be some of the best shooters in their choosen shooting sports. I've several female friends who hold or have held various world records. I do respect them but, I still don't understand them and I try never to assume anything about them. If you fully understand women, PLEASE explain them to the rest of us male morons. Ooopps, there I go with the sexist comments against males now. Where will it stop?
