    Carbide dies question

Ive been using normal steel dies for a little bit and im getting tired of the lubing routine. I was thinking of moving to carbide dies because they dont require lube. But i heard mix reviews regarding cases getting stuck in carbide dies regardless. I have haven't had any stuck cases yet but i always use an appropriate amount of lube and clean my dies everY 500 cases or so. What are your experiences with carbide dies?

Carbide with straight walled cartridges or bottleneck?

Most guys run no lube with pistol/straight walled yes on lube with rifle/bottleneck.

Even the handgun caliber dies can use some lube, reduces strain on the body.I lube about every 10th case.

Borrleneck carbide dies still require lube. They make it easier to size, though. Some people lube straightwalled cases for use with carbide dies as well, but only to reduce the sizing effort in progressive presses.

I have loaded thousands of straight wall pistol cases without lube, however, I do clean my brass after every range visit and I use the car polish in the tumbler.
I assume that the clean brass coupled with the polish, the lube is a non-issue as I have never experienced any sort of stuck, or hard to release case.
The progressive just keeps on truckin'.
That doesn't necessarily make me right, just my way.

I use carbide dies for .45ACP and sometimes I lube the cases and they size even easier.

I notice quite a difference when I use some hornady one shot aerosol lube on my pistol brass. My brass is usually pretty shinny after being tumbled and I load on a dillon 550.

How do you currently lube your cases?

If you haven't tried the hornady spray, your missing out. You can spray a bunch of cases in a bucket all at one time and then load away. Tumbling is not necessary afterward, but if you use a lot or lube or the can squirts the lube rather than misting the brass, like my last one started to do, the brass can come out with a noticeable film. In that case, just tumble the finished rounds for a few minutes or towl them off. The hornady lube does not affect the powder or primers.

I've always lubed avery 3rd case. It sizes the case much easier. If you're loading cases that are long, like 30 carbine, 357 mag..., I would really suggest lubing every 3rd case. But on the shorter cases, I don't think you really need to. I just do since I load 44 mag on occasion and it's just a habbit.
