    SP Wolf primer data...?

Just started reloading again after 13 years off, and used up all of my stock of Remington SP primers. Saw a post here and bought 5K of Wolf small pistol primers from Widener's (thanks to OP ).

I have not been able to find any load data from traditional sources (new Lyman's and Speer data books), and a Google search didn't turn anything relevant up...so thought I'd try here.

I'm loading .40S&W with 231 powder and 180 grain FMJ and plated bullets for IPSC/IPDA use. Do I need to make any adjustments to powder load for the Wolf primers?

I'm basically starting from scratch again, as my favorite VV powder is no longer available, so my old data book and loading notes are not useful anymore.

Hodgdon's online reloading info does not differenciate between different primer manufacturers. You said you ordered a "few", I thought your were trying to be sly and you really ordered 20k. Ask me how many ordered.

        Barrym66,

Wolf primers are somewhat new to the reloading game. From what I have read the first primers were crappy and very inconsistant. Quality has greatly improved and the price point still competitive. I really wish the shotgun primers would improve. Like any load data you will still need to begin at the starting grain suggestion and work your way up checking for high pressure signs.
One note, one brand of cases may get you to a higher pressure than another, so be careful when loading with mixed brass cases. Because brand "A" doesn't show pressure sign doesn't mean brand "AA" won't.

I have Wolf in both LP and 209 shotgun replacement flavor. Haven't opened up the pistol ones yet, but I heard from a guy shooting them they work fine in normal pressure loads like 45 acp etc. The only bad thing i have been told regarding wolf over the magnum winchester large pistol primers is that a heavy load like 44 mag with Win296/H110 with a case full of powder is a bad combo to use with a wolf LP primer.

so far the wolf shotgun primers have worked great for both 28ga and normal power 12 ga loads I have done. I will continue to buy those at $10 less per 1000.

I have PMC small pistol primers,I heard they are produced in Wolfs factory in Russia.I loaded up 100 rnds of 124grn MTG FMJ oal of 1.090 with 5.1grns of 231 for minor loads and had no issues, also 300 rnds of 5.9 grns of 231 with oal of 1.125 for major loads.I was a little skeptical at first but they all seem consistent. One of the guys at NRG local match told me that some guys a while back were having Chrono issues not being consistent,I only shoot local matches and probably will never shoot a big match so If they go bang everytime I am happy.Pressures are not over bearing, barrels are fully supported ramped barrels.

Great, thanks all ...it appears the latest manufacture Wolf primers are good to go. As always I'm going to start loading a few grains down (.1-.2) over published numbers for 231 and go up from there based on results.
