    +1 for TiteGroup.

I like 231 for 40 s&w and 38spl. I use middle of the road jacketed data for loading copper coated berrys bullets. I am a beginner at steel challenge shooting. I do not load for 9mm yet.

How is the muzzle flash on win 231, if I may ask? I will have a night shoot coming up where we are outside in the dark for a competition and have only flashlight, weapon lights, and lasers to use to see what we are doing.

540, HS6, WSF, and #5 all work about the same. Unique is also pretty close, and several others. Burning rate charts tell some of the story. How well the powders meter and chrono also are good to know. I like 540/HS6 a lot becuase it meters and chrono'd pretty well for me, and is very accurate. In some tests (handheld, and thus subjective) years ago, comparing 231 and 540, subjective recoil was lower using 540/HS6 using 147 in a G17L at the same power factor. I ended up running the 147 about 900fps or so at very comfortable pressures. This took the steel (full size poppers) a lot better than 231 running about 128PF.

Lots of powders work in 9mm, just depends on what you are trying to do.

          all the best,
          Mike

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Win 231. Works great for .40 and 9mm.

HP38 - Exactly the same as W231 but cheaper.

The choices you have will work fine. 231 will work great also as many here have suggested. I use WSF and it shoots really good in 9MM. In my case I actually like it much better than Titegroup for 9MM, but every gun is different. I use 5.4gr WSF with a 115gr Montana Gold FMJ. OAL is 1.125. It chronos at an average of 1154 FPS with a standard deviation of 15.3. And it's very accurate in my Sig.

W231 has been very consistent in my g17. I did work up the load to 4.5-4.6gr under a 124gr cmj at 1.15" oal. It burns clean, has a very controllable muzzle flip, and gets rid of spent brass. No pressure signs on the brass and it cleans up quickly in the tumbler. I am very happy with it.

Thanks for all the responses. I currently have lots of 231 that I use for .45acp. Looking at the Winchester load data I can get almost 100fps more velocity from a 127g. bullet with HS-6 or AA#7 than with 231. I also have Longshot which gives great results but the chamber pressure is up there which is a concern because I am loading for a Glock.

The bullets I am going to use are Montana Gold 127g. HP.

                        Thanks again, Sammy

I had no idea they made a 127gr hp.

Winchester makes RA9TA which is 127gr +P+ but I haven`t found any bullets.Federal makes the 135grJHP which I haven`t found bullets in that weight either. My theory for over 30 years has been 130-135gr bullets would be ideal for 9mm.I never understood why the major ammunition companies went from 124gr to 147 gr with nothing inbetween.

I like tite group and I also have bullseye, I guess I will start looking for a recipe for using BE as well. I have 8# of TG and 5# of BE for all my 9mm needs, just need more primers.
