    reloading 308 marlin

30 cal. flex tip bullets are now available fro Hornady , but I've heard that these are the bullets designed for the 30/30 and the cannular is located farther up on the bullet than the 308 express bullet. Why can't you just not seat the bullet as deep as you would on the 30/30 and not use the cannular? Would this be a problem?

This might be a problem, since the Marlin is a Tube Magazine. The crimp in the cannulure is necessary to prevent bullet setback. Without the cannulure, the bullet can be pushed back into the case during recoil by the rounds in front of it.

Hornady should have a specific bullet for the .308Marlin application, since they developed the cartridge.
    Luck favors the prepared.

The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.
