    Ammo question 5.7x28mm

Seems there's only a couple brands and types of ammo for the FN57 gun

Whenever I can find a random 50 rounds Federal and FN.

    Question?
Those who do own and shoot that weapon, does it pretty much eat anything you put through it, some guns are very finicky. I don't want to keep loading up on Federal that's majority of what I can fined, once a while I will find a box of FN.

Obviously it's made by FN and their ammo should be good to go. Could Federal could be an issue??
If the gun is not correctly cleaned and lubricated that could also gum things up and give a FTF or affect accuracy? And don't want to blame the ammo for lack of good maintenance, upkeep and ****ty lubricant.

Why is it so hard to find the ammo. a lot of gun shops do have an assortment of ammo is back in stock now but it's always been a pain to they just make a couple boxes and it goes to the first few hoarders? Or is this an ammo that goes overseas to another country and it never hits our shelves??

Sadly posting from southern California, somethings are just harder to find background checks and stupid lines at every gun store.

    Thanks

I have no experience shooting or loading that ammo but I would venture to guess that a small number of guns chambered for it would lead to a small needed supply in civilian hands. So manufacturers would rather pump out high quantity?s of fast movers ie 5.56 9mm and such. And most productions would probably be contracted by people who issue that platform in service if there are any that still do. I have a feeling that this will end up like many mil surp cartridges and other odd balls the longer time goes on.

I have used both FN 27 gr. Lead free and Federal American Eagle 40 gr in my Ruger 5.7 without any problems of any kind. Every firearm is different, ymmv.

It's a less common round, therefore less availability, simple. That said there are literally dozens of different high volume 5.7 rounds made... some are good, some stink. Good conventional 5.7 rounds:

FN SS197 vmax, most cost effective range and target ammo

FN SS198 best FN-made defense round, very accurate, green tip, red box, it's really just a newer version of SS195 loaded a bit hotter.

I would take the time to get a case of each of these and be done. Great, reliable.

Federal is junk, so is all the new dfns and other gimmicky junk.

Now, if you like specialty rounds you need to check out:

Elite Ammunition offers high-performance ammunition, for the Five-seveN pistol, FN PS90, FN P90, and Banshee pistol. We also offer services, parts, accessories, and reloading supplies. Your one-stop-shop.

both make amazing rounds that take things to the next level, and all have been tested by Buffman (5.7 guru) on YouTube. Get some Vanguard Black Dragon Fang into your 5.7 and or Elite T6B and you'll
l have a whole differnent beast.

And you'll never look at federal American eagle again...just junk, not reliable. Same with underpowered FN DFNS and Fiocchi stuff... all rebranded and quickly made.

SS198 /SS195 worth getting from GB or ammoseek. Elite and vangaurd direct when in stock. Do the preorders. Hope this helps!

I've shot a few thousand of the FN SS197SR and a couple boxes of Federal. No issues with either but prefer the factory rounds. I keep the brass but have not ventured to reload them. They seem awfully finicky to reload.

My shooting buddy has gone through FN, Federal, and American Eagle in his FN57 without any issues.
