Hazmat shipping cost ?

Contemplating a bulk powder order from the Midwest to Northern CA.
6x 8lb jugs to split with a buddy.
Shipper quoted 250.00 for shipping. That was easily 2x to 3x more than I had anticipated.
Am I delusional or is that a fair price.

Grafs does flat shipping of like 12.95 + hazmat and up to 48 lbs per hazmat charge.

That was the exact circumstance.. I worked it out with the seller. I now have it imbound. Powder prices are through the roof. I will soon have pistol & 12 guage covered for many yrs to come.l. it is old 540 & 452 bulk canister powder repacked in 1 gallon jugs. I plan to start off in 45 ACP & 38 special powder puff loads & compare to known data then go from their.

There's a weight limit to a single hazmat shipment; usually 48 or 50 lbs, which, with the weight of the jugs, you're probably right there. But, if you split that order into 2 cartons, it's still easily twice or 3x what it should be. Normal hazmat fee (it's separate from shipping) is anywhere from 18 to 30 bucks. Shipping is what they decide to charge (and it sounds like they're making a profit here.)

I'd suggest finding another vendor. 6 - 8# jugs is large, but not exactly an obscenely large order.

Yea I played poker & backed out of deal & seller offered to cover on his end. 720 00 otd & landed for 16 lbs 540 & 32 lbs 452. Now I am just hopefull it has been stored like seller states & is viable considering its age. If so this added to my current stock levels my grand kids might be shooting this when they come of age. Only component left on my to stock up is mid sized Rifle powder. Got the small & big belted covered but lacking on the mid sized category.
