    Casting for 30 carbine

So I have myself a nice carbine. I have loaded some for it with hornaday bullets. But I got myself a mould for the .308 in the size and weight for the 30 carbine. I have cast and powder coated bullets before. I have been. Told on several groups and pages that you cannot shoot cast bullets in the carbine due to the gas piston. My gas system screw has been open before I got it as I can take it out so it?s not staked. So I?m not sure it would be a big issue with me. But has anyone cast bullets powder coated them and then shot them out of thier m1 carbine here ? And if so what have you experienced

I have never heard of that problem but have only put a few hundred rounds through my M1 carbine. My mold is a 115 sp and I used both copper and aluminum gas checks and carnuba red wax lube. The powder coating prevents leading normally, but I don't know if people suspect the gas port shaves the lead, which could happen with powder coat as well. Maybe the issue is the wax lube potentially plugging up the port or getting into the action. The castboolits forum would be the place to read more and ask this question.

I have an M1 Carbine, that I reload for. But, I have never loaded lead bullets. My uncle would do this. According to him, if the gas port plugged with lead, then one just poked a drill through the gas bleed hole in the gas cylinder assembly and cleaned any lead out. Having never done this, I am just passing along unconfirmed info.
To be honest, I'm not sure I would do this. Because it doesn't remove any lead particles that got in where the piston is. One would have to remove the piston, and threaded collar to thoroughly clean it out. Doable, but, one runs the risk of having the collar unscrew again unless a bit is swaged back into place.
One might lessen the leading problem if one went with powder coated bullets.

That?s what I was thinking as well. I powder coat and my gas system has been opened before so I check it any time it comes apart. I have only ever put 50 rounds through this particular gun. Mostly because this and my m1 rifle shoot brass forward and I don?t want to have to scout my brass in the piles at my local range

I have lost count of the lead bullets I have shot through my M1. No problems.

          Mine is an Auto Ordnance.

I cast for the m1 30 carbine. I use a Lyman 311359 115gr sp and a Lyman 311410 130gr with no issues. Slug your barrel and size to the proper diameter. Lube and powder coat with no issues.
