Friend just gave me 350 rnds of Hornady 50gr V-Max. Anyone out there ever load these and use in an AR? AR barrel is a 1:10. Any suggestions for loading? Will be used for varmits and target work. Any suggestions appreciated.

1:10 will work fine with that bullet.
Lots of load data in the hornady manual.
V-max are not lead free but they will work great outside California where you are shooting them.Randall Rausch

My .220 swift didn't care for them. The Ogive was not consistent enough to allow for proper seating consistency. Maybe you'll have better luck. I went back to Sierra for 50gr varmint bullets.Comment

My Savage heavy varmint rifle loves them. Five shots at 100 yards:
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Gotta love that Savage heavy varmint! I shoot the 60 grain V-max with SW tactical rifle powder in mine, and yes - those rifles will make groups all day the size of your fingernail at 100 yards. (223 Remington)Comment

Not the 50, but the 53 grain V-Max in my 1:7 twist AR.
