    Dillion XL-650 Press!

OK guys & gals, it's opinion time once again and I need all the help I can muster up for reloading a bunch of pistol and rifle cases. We have over 5000 rounds of brass for the 45acp, 2500 in 9mm Luger, 1800 in .40S&W. Not to mention the several thousand empty .223 cases in two 5 gal buckets.

So question is, "What is your opinion of the Dillion XL-650 reloading press?

Who has one of these and what kind of performance do you usually turn out in a couple of hours work at the bench?

650's are badass. I myself have a 550. Dillon markets the 550 has the most versatile reloader available, but I do like the fact that the 650 auto indexes and has an optional powder check station. If you're in the market, GO FOR IT. Dillon is one of my favorite companies out there. You can't go wrong with a Dillon.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.

Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

My opinion is that it's the best progressive press you can buy if you intend to load more than one chambering.
If you can swing a press for each chambering, then get a bunch of 1050's.

For pistol ammo, I do about 800 rounds per hour because I have the dillon primer tube filler machine.
If you don't have the filler, figure on 600 rounds per hour.

I have a XL650 and give it a through work out. 2 5gal buckets of .223 is almost 7000 cases. If you are not going to sort them dealing with crimps is a b--ch. I process a lot of brass but not many different calibers. I deal with a lot of LC brass. For a couple hundred dollars more I could have bought a 1050. I guess I can start saving. You'll love your 650 once everything has been swaged.

why cant you add a swaging die to a station on the 650? wondering if i should plan on a 1050 then!?

There would be no place for the ram that presses out the crimp. If you can afford it and justify the need, go 1050.

Swaging 3k lc .223 rounds sucks. Shoot commercial brass and you will love your 650.

You don't just screw a swaging die into the shellplate.
The swaging is done from underneath the case.
The 1050 comes with the swaging setup as one of the 8 stations.

i just bought my first press, XL650. deciding factor for me was amount of ammo for the press, i shoot around 2,000 rounds a month. i thought about the 1050 for awhile because ill be loading just one caliber, but price, its twice as much. also, 1050 doesnt have the "NO BS Warranty" (though Dillon is known to use the best quality parts).

ah i guess i never thought about that. How do the swaging dies work then? I almost bought a set at the last gun show but opted to just keep reaming old skool style for now

I think it somehow works with a special shell plate.

The RCBS primer pocket swager die replaces a shellholder with a swage piece.
Then the actual die just supports the case from the inside while the swage piece presses into the primer pocket.

The RCBS setup only works on a single stage press.

On a 1050, the swage piece is part of the press linkage.
It moves up and down in-time with the press hitting the top of it's travel where the swage backup die is supporting the case for swaging from below.
