Bad timing to start to reload.......

Gosh darn it all to heck dag nabbit curse the devil. I finally get some time off from work--not by choice but oh well. So I come up with a cunning plan--I will purchase 2000 large pistol primers, 2000 new cases, and the priming press that I've had my eyes on for a while now. Then I will buy the press and dies that I've been thinking of and commence to work up some decent loads for my pistol as I while away the long summer afternoon hours. Then I will load in bulk. Then I will start the same thing all over again for my rifle calibers. When my injuries are healed up I will be ready for some epic range days.

I started by buying manuals and reading books, watching youtube vids and other reloading vids found online. Pretty soon I had a real good understanding of what reloading is all about and where I was headed.

So I log in to my old standby Midwayusa and lo and behold, everything, and I mean everything, is out of stock. Yeah, I knew there was an ammo shortage but I didn't realize that reloaders were affected too. Another one of my great plans smashed to pieces.......

Oh well, I refocused my efforts and am going to finally, finally finish my FA308 build.......

    Bummer man!
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Just to save some money, you don't need 2000 cases (unless you do go thru 2k rds per range trip). Each case will probably last 4-5 reloads, or more if it's not hot load. I'd say 2 range-trip worth of brass is more than enough.

Thanks for the offer my friend but I was hoping to get it all in one nice package.......I got midwayusa to notify me if/when they get in some nice 10mm cases and that will go right to my cell phone so I can act ASAP....not holding my breath though......

Yeah, but it was also a way to keep me occupied during my downtime, and also, for some stupid reason, I get some wierd satisfaction out of a closet full of nice ammo.....

I say at least a third of new reloader will stop reloading if prices keep dropping for ammo. So, dont worry components will become more available.

I'd just buy the stuff now or next time you want to you will be in the same spot. It would be nice to have it all at once but if you break it up you'll be able to buy more stuff when it comes in stock.

Components are loosening up. Buy your reloading hardware at the best prices you can. The components will soon be available.

So you are going to load 10mm? What bullet and powder are you going to start with? I have some good recipies for 180g. Montana Gold HP's and 200g. Zero flat nose.

Any answer I gave to your query would be premature at this point. I was really looking forward to priming and sizing-prep a ton of shells before I made any decisions--but basically I was planning on loading 300-400 135grainers at a decently high velocity, and the rest 180grFMJ's for plinkage. Between my manuals and books and bookmarked web pages I have literally hundreds of recipes, but rest assured, I would copy and paste your load into one of my loading files too if you feel like sharing.

                          I love to share.

I am current using 9.1g. of Longshot over a Montana Gold 180g. HP. Starline brass and a Wolf primer. Using the factory barrel it buldges the case a bit but not too bad. Using the KKM barrel the cases look great, no buldge and resize much easier. I am getting 1225fps out of the KKM with this load. it is 60% IIRC the minimum for this powder and bullet is 8.5 minimum and max. is 9.5. I figure 1225fps is good enough and the primers while flat are not too bad. Fun load. I don't know where you are located but if you are in the Bay Area you are welcome over and we can load 100 on me. Good luck, Sammy

The supplies of powder and primers are slowly trickling back in. The larger vendors still seems to sell out fairly quickly however some of the smaller ones may have what you're looking for.

Here are some sites you can look at:

Graf & Sons, the reloading authority, has a wide selection of reloading supplies, shooting supplies, ammo and more.

Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply has ammo and reloading supplies for sale at cheap prices. Find out why we're the best deal on the web today!

                            just to get you started.
