    45 caliber unicorn

45 Long Colt 255 gr bullet (lower pressure Colt Peacemaker reproduction)

    45 ACP 230 gr bullets

    460 Rowland 230 and 255 gr bullets

Single Unicorn powder that can be used in all three cartridges.

I'm thinking Longshot might do the trick.

Looking for advice on unicorn hunt! One power to rule them all.

Bullseye would be good for 45LC and 45ACP but likely marginal for 460 Rowland (just guessing here).

True blue look like a good option as well.

Then when you decide to get 454 casull, there's true blue data fo that too.

there's nothing unicorn about this. Unique would do all of them with zero issues.

That's what I was thinking too.

It's short sighted to try to use one powder for dramatically different performing loads though.

You give up top performance on the big magnum when you have 2 other cartridges that want a faster burning lower pressure loads.

The better solution is 2 powders.
One for the low pressure loads and another for the high pressure load.

Then we go something like 231 or bullseye and then 296/H110.

IF you have to go with only one powder, Unique.

I used a lot of Unique for 45 LC but found it too dirty. I see Alliant has reformulated for a cleaner burning mix. Interesting ... now if I can actually find some.

H110 isn't going to work well in the 460 rowland, there's just not enough room in the case. The load data I gave is from Rowlands website. With the 260gr bullet seated at 1.25 oal, they claim that there's 12.2gr of available space inside the case. H110 has a vmd of .0656. That would be about 12.1gr of h110 for 100% load density.

The powders they list are the powders for the 460, they give the most velocity with the least amount of pressure, the whole point of the Rowland. They work the compensator. Those powders will also work in 45 acp and 45 colt lots of published loads. If you go over to plasticguntalk .com there's a 45 super thread with hundreds of pages, and those boys are running past 460 with comps, throated barrels and 45 acp brass. The powders are power pistol longshot, aa7, and 800x. With 800x being the most predictable and stable of the bunch. It's a shame they discontinued it.

Found some unique loads on 460rowland.com I think the guy used quickload for pressure estimates.

The 265gr wfn had to be seated deep because it wouldn't chamber otherwise. If the barrel was throated these velocities would increase.

OP if you have a 45 colt revolver that the manufacturer also chambers in 45 acp, Brian Pierce has loads that run up to that pressure in 45 colt, he seems to favor longshot.

I was thinking of bigger cases like 45win mag, Cassull and the 460S&W.

I forgot that the Rowland was just a 45Super.

In that case, I would be down towards Power Pistol and AA#7 as my 2nd powder choice because you could also hot-rod the 45Colt with those in a Ruger.
