Igaging Bluetooth Digital Caliper - highly recommended!

    This thing is amazing!

If you pair it with your PC, open an Excel worksheet, it will automatically fill in the cells with your measurements and move to the next cell for the next input.

I took 20 measurements in less than a minute, and the all of them are in the sheet. Im very impressed.

Positives - it has an origin function. Compared to my last caliper than didnt, I noted variances in the old, while the new one is measuring my loads consistently. Bluetooth for logging data automatically!

Negatives - buy the 8" inch caliper. I got the 6 inch, and with 7.62x54r, the large size of the screen, I barely have enough space for my hands to hold the caliper.

The Harbor Freight ones don't connect via Bluetooth to your PC, so there's that... If you're looking for just a caliper, then the HF one will probably suit you just fine.

Ive had basic digital calipers for decades. Never really thought it was necessary to buy a higher end one.

Recently, Hornady?s bullet comparator was giving me fits. With the comparator on the caliper, it was not returning to zero all the time. Also, OAL measurements had variances I couldnt get rid off. No matter what seating die, or shell holder I used, the danged ammo was not seating the bullet to achieve a consistent OAL.

Enter the Absolute Origin feature. ?iGaging ABSOLUTE ORIGIN Origin Digital Caliper iGaging's Origin Digital Caliper uses HIGH ACCURACY ABSOLUTE memory technology. It keeps track of its origin position once set. Whenever the digital caliper turned on, the easy-view large LCD displays the actual sensor position ready to start measuring.?

I saw the same feature on Mitutoyo calipers that I was considering. ? Mitutoyo's absolute Digimatic Caliper is the next generation of electronic calipers. It keeps track of its origin point once set.?

That said, regular calipers takes measurements from the movement of the slide. These two do not do that. If you turn it on at 4 inches, its will display just that.

I tested it and it works well measuring distance to lands, ogives and OAL. The results are much more consistent. My last caliper wasnt too cheap either. It cost 25 bucks. This one is 60, and a Mitutoyo is 125.

I use an iGaging non-bluetooth caliper; Seems pretty decent. It ran about $40ish bucks several years ago. Displays to 4 decimals (no idea what the actual measurement limit is, but it's plenty accurate for what I need.)

Only thing I don't like about it is that there's no auto-shutoff. If you have a habit of leaving it on when returning to storage, you should invest in a battery company.

Then a couple days later you make a "deposit" on a $1k powder measure, while referring to $25 calipers as "not too cheap".

I have a pair of HF calipers I got in a package deal. My Mitutoyos are just so much better all around. Feel, action. IMHO, if you're using 'em much, they're worth the upgrade. I had to de-horn the HF just to keep from cutting myself. The HF likes to eat batteries. The Mitutoyo's battery lasts for years of daily use.

Like Ive mentioned above, no problem with my cheaper calipers. I was just measuring the amount of crimp a die was putting on a round. My lower cost Vinca kept up with the iGaging. The exception is when using Hornady bullet comparators. The attachment messes up the zero of the ?incremental? sensor vs the ?absolute origin?. The Mitutoyo has the same tech.

With absolute origin, my reloads barely have a variance in OAL and ogive to base. Thats a win.

Im sure the Mitutoyo is great. I buy just what I need, and iGaging was reviewed well by some reloader reviewers so I went for it. Im also looking to get a ball anvil micrometer, and iGaging makes a good one.

Between getting some of Mitutoyos return to zero tech in this and if it works good getting a matching micrometer, I was sold on it.
