      I identified "south west states".

But ok. I enjoyed the giggle factor for your endeavor as it is..

      Best of luck in Idaho.

Tell that to a ,"very zealous" game warden in ANY southwestern state that needs to boost his monthly citation quota....

            And whatever..

In 40 years living in socal, hiking, backpacking, and working in "rattler" country, I have never encountered a venomous reptile that warranted a gun shot. And I have encountered all of the rattler species-red diamond back, so-pac, speckled, western diamond back, sidewinder and the feared mojave green.

If you don't threaten them, they will not bite/envenomate you... And all tge rattler species are polite enough to warn you with the "buzz" if you get too close ..

Sounds as if the rattlesnakes you mentioned are tame.

I make something similar to these in 357 and 44 using an inverted gas check and a crimp. They work well.

That's one thing I've learned re-inventing this on my own (well, besides not using it in "several southwestern states", and possibly not posting in the wee hours while under the influence ) - I'm thinking the suggestion to use an inverted gas check would be much better than using the cut cardboard round as an over-shot card. I've crimped them in place and topped it off with wood glue, but I'm not convinced it will stand up to repeated recoil.

I'd suggest if a little bit of elmer's glue and no crimp can keep my overshot cards in place shooting my SxS 12 gauge and riding in my belt, cart, etc. for a few hours you'll likely be fine.

I do use acetone on a q-tip to clean inside the shell before I glue. A lesson learned from various amounts of spilled shot.

Why not take a glued round and put it in the kinetic puller and see how hard it is to shake it all loose? Give the glue at least 24 hours to dry before doing so (another lesson learned...)

Cleaning the inside of the case lip? D'oh!

I'm also lubing my wads, so really I'm just making sure there's not extra lube inside the hull. Raw dogging your .44 mag should be fine.

Try the kinetic puller, I'm curious.

I still need to load some up for the 45 Colt. I have some 460 brass, I'll cut down and neck the front with a 44 sizing die. Seat a gas check in front of #10 shot.

What states would these be? TMK, CA is the only one to require nontox for all species including non-game species.

Ya know, my initial response was to ask the same question..... but I decided not to so as not to invite more thread-crapping.

A gas check would be preferable, if you have them laying about. My experiment was all about tinkering with what I had on-hand, just to see if I could do it.
