    45 Cal Reloads Tumbling???

Take a look at the picture ...please. It looks like the bullet is tumbling. What do you think is the cause and how to fix it.
    Thanks

If you want some help, you need to provide more information such as the cartridge, just 45 could mean a couple of cartridges. Firearm fired from, specific bullet & weight, powder, powder charge, primer, brass, velocity and COAL.

Geez - you're hitting center-ring. Keep shooting them!

Without more information, I have no idea...leaving me to make comments about potentially "fletching" your bullets or adding similar stabilizing winglets

You are shooting a paper target and paper tears.

You need to shoot on a cardboard target an the target need to be 25 yards away.

My opinion you are good to go.

Agreed. The markings from the bullet in the holes looks like the bullet is hitting correctly (looks like a full circle except that it is torn).

Those types of tears can happen if there isn?t any backing surface behind the paper. It happens if the backing behind the target was previously shot up.

Next time at the range, bring thicker targets or shoot cardboard.

That's just ripped paper. I have shot tumbling bullets and most leave perfect bullet silhouettes.

OP here. Thanks for those answers. I was at an indoor range with just paper hanging from clips. It makes sense what you say. I will use a cardboard backing For those that asked....45 ACP, W231, 4.4 Gn. 230 GN RN Plated bullet., 1.200 OAL. Fired from a Citadel 1911. Thanks

OP here, Thanks for all your info. I was shooting 45ACP, W231, 4.4 Gn, Berrys 230 GN RN plated bullet, 1.200 OAL thru a Citadel 45 1911.
What you are saying about shooting paper without a backing is correct. I was at an indoor range shooting at paper target hanging from 2 clips. Next time I'll bring some cardboard to stiffen it. I feel better now. Thanks

An easier remedy is to tape up the targets. Most of the ranges have masking tape on the walls (most?). That can help your problem. I personally like the shoot n see targets. They?re a little stiffer coated paper/plastic targets and I don?t usually have that problem.

Yup, if round nose, just a tear can look funky. SWC can make prettier holes.
                        You are likely ok.

its "paper bias" the tears are all in the same direction keyholes will be in a bunch of random directions

its like how you can tear a newspaper into strips when tearing vertical but if you try to tear horizontal it doesnt go straight

I used to bring my own cardboard backer made from cut pieces from cardboard boxes. Clip the cardboard to the hanger and tape the target to the cardboard.

I notice in movies a lot of the time when they show someone shooting at an indoor range the targets nearly always look like that.
