    Federal Fusion question

My wife's .243 shoots Federal's Fusion ammo just absolutely wonderfully. To the point that I just don't load ammo for her because there's no point. The bullet has worked well on every single deer and antelope she's shot.

Federal hasn't made a run of this ammo for years. We were running low and I was getting ready to start load dev for her but suddenly there's .243 fusion ammo available. Hooray!

IIRC the Fusion bullet is the defunct Speer Deep Curl which they no longer sell. But, Speer makes the Deep Curl bullet (just not publicly available), coats it in something, and then sells it as the Gold Dot.

So, a Gold Dot is a coated Deep Curl, and the Deep Curl is the same bullet as the Fusion.

I have old Fusion ammo laying around, and new Gold Dots, the bullets look a little different with the OLD Fusion ammo seeming brighter and more 'coppery'. This NEW fusion ammo seems to be loaded with something that looks more like the Gold Dot.

Is the fusion line now being made with Gold Dots instead of some Fusion specific bullet?

Edit to add: Also annoying Federal doesn't sell the 6mm Fusion component bullet, and Speer doesn't sell a 6mm Gold Dot.
