So is 1/3 of a turn and the case body taper on 1/3 of a turn is nowhere near 0.010? diameter change either.
He probably means 0.001? and he does not even realize what the 1/3 turn did to his shoulder which was likely the problem all along.
Probably has excessive headspace now but is just happy that his rounds now fit inside his chamber.

OP, according to your own measurements. Your case bases were NOT oversize. So is 1/3 of a turn and the case body taper on 1/3 of a turn is nowhere near 0.010? diameter change either.

Did you ever chamber check the cases using black ink, as I, and others suggested?
That is the ONLY way to determine which part of your sized cases were actually binding.Comment

Yep, 1/3 of a turn would move the die about .024" down, and there's not .010" taper in .024" depth of the die. (I remember you also showed the math on this a while back)So is 1/3 of a turn and the case body taper on 1/3 of a turn is nowhere near 0.010? diameter change either.

I had a friend that followed directions on a set of .223 dies long ago to adjust them against the shell holder. Oops, too much headspace.
I think .010 case expansion at the base would mean a case that was massively over-charged*, so I think you are likely correct about .001".
*I think Ken Waters used to measure factory brass after firing the factory load, and stopped load development when he got .0005 over that? I'd have to look in the book to see if that was him, as sometimes my memory isn't perfect. There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.
It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?Comment

I’m glad you got it figured out. With any once fired brass from another rifle, my bolt action requires a full length resize.Comment
