    Does this case look off?

The base has a sharp score, I'm guessing something on the bolt. And the primer is really flat with some neck cracking. These are once fired factory rounds.

My Wife works for our Sheriff so I have carte blanche to grab range brass off the County range. And no I have no idea what rifle thses were fired from, all the .308 brass I found was the same with the same markings.

Probably shot out of an AR. Mark on the head is from the extractor. The raised crater could be due to it being spicy, the firing pin and bolt combo, or soft primer. I wouldnt think anything of it. Cracked case on once fired? dunno. Would need to see more brass from the gun. My 308 brass usually gets loose primers before it cracks. My 223/556 brass usually cracks before any other issue.

Using that one pic alone to evaluate.

I would not consider that primer to be [really flat] or even flattened. The circumference still has rounded edges.

The crater extrusion at the pin strike on the primer without extreme flattening, is usually caused by an overly large pin hole in the bolt face.

Cracked necks on factory ammo is just poor metallurgy.

Other than the neck crack there's nothing wrong with what I can see with that case. Flat primer? Not even close.

I'd be more concerned with the ejector mark. either hot load or soft brass.

Short base to shoulder measurement can cause both those symptoms (cratered FP strike and the ejector mark): Case gets pushed forward at the initial firing pin strike, and the primer is pushed back against the breech face. As pressure builds the case is slammed back against the breech, reseating the primer in the process, and causing the ejector mark on the head. Cratering can often be caused by a sloppy pin-to-hole fit.

Both those can also be a signal of high pressure as well, though they usually have other indications occurring at the same time. Best to figure it out though.

Ya, I'd suspect headspace (ammo, chamber or both) and firing pin bore.

To start, I'd measure the fired round base to shoulder datum. Without access to the firearm, it's gonna be an educated guess.
