Are you saying picking up trash is a hobby like camping, hunting, or fishing
You're reaching for relevancy and creating strawmen to fortify your position. I don't get paid to shoot, it a recreational activity like hunting and fishing. My brass is on the ground with the other brass, it takes no extra effort to pick it up. No special trip, no real extra time or money spent. Since I reload anyway, it gets processed with my brass.

It shouldn't be hard to understand, but I guess maybe it is?

It doesn?t take extra effort to pick up extra brass that isn?t yours?

I think you?re reaching for relevancy by suggesting it takes 0 extra effort to pick up range trash. It does take extra effort, which is why you asked your question ?Why does anyone buy it?? People buy their brass because of the effort it takes to pick it up. If it didn?t take extra effort, everyone would do it.

Not to mention sorting it, looking for berdan cases, or those crappy stepped 9mm brass. Or sorting 45acp large and small primers, military brass from commercial brass.

If I buy it, the sorting has been done, and it’s possibly deprimed and cleaned already.

Well, let's go back to your original inferred position:

Driving to and from - no difference. I'm at the range anyway, 2 - 4 times a week. So that does not wash.

Extra time picking it up - I suppose so, but it is minimal. I'm already picking up my own brass, and I will police the area if I have time so it's already picked up. I have enough .223 brass to last me a lifetime, so I just toss the rest into the range recycle bucket for the range to sell for scrap. I suppose I could be lazy, click on a button, and wait for the delivery. But the brass is in my hands already, and it's easy enough to process.

Besides which - the discussion is about .223 - not 9mm, 45, or any other caliber. .223. Although 9mm is laying about everywhere, too.

i think someone on CG buys them from HI

many states do not allow ammo shipped to your residence unfortunately. with FFL charging anywhere $25-150 per case to transfer ammo, it makes reloading an alternative more attractive considering that new 223 can cost 70-80 cents a round at retail prices.

You didn't get paid for that respect and other people will pick it up for free.
Just go buy more factory ammo and leave all that once-fired brass for the poors...

I didn't drive to the range just to scrounge bass, if that's what you're driving at. I was already there testing loads, practicing, and generally having fun. I don't get paid for camping, hunting, and fishing, either.

No time...... too busy trying to invent a special magnet that picks up brass!

So, I'm sitting at the range for the 3rd time this week waiting for my rifle to cool down.I've been practicing for an upcoming state match and i'm getting my zeros squared away.

So the question is, do I sit on my butt and do nothing while I'm waiting for the rfle to cool down or should I pick up some brass since I have nothing better to do?

                    Decisions, decisions.

Youtube de-monitized all gun/shooting related content a few years ago.

Ever since I started reloading in the mid-90s, I have always purchased my brass new (or kept brass from factory ammo). I do not pick up range brass at all, preferring to reload my own (I know where it's been and how many times loaded and with what power level).

As a result I have 10s of thousands of pieces of brass in all the calibers I shoot (rifle and handgun), polished, sorted by brand and stored in zip-lock bags in plastic containers.

                          I'm good to go.

You would get along great with Apples. I like what you posted.

I don't worry too much about straight wall brass and I only pickup 223/556 rifle brass (OK ok, if I see some nice 7.62x39 I'll pick it up too)

I reload the 223/556 and shoot it once then leave it (not in the Mojave) I just finished reloading 1k brass that we picked up a few weeks ago at the Route 66 shooting Park. It's so much fricken work to do it.

I use a single stage RCBS rock chucked. Is it possible that another press would make it easier? I don't see how.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
