Freedom Munitions - Bullet "Set Back"

"Set back" is probably not the term for this.

I bought 1000 of these back in 2017. Have gone through about half and never noticed any signs of over pressure, feeding or extraction issue. I only noticed when a round did not fire today and I ejected the cartridge. The bullet became unseated and fell back into the case. Chambered a couple more and the bullet fell into the case on both. Grabbed my other rifle chambered and ejected two rounds. Same thing.

~500 rounds into the lot. Lucky?

I just reached out to Freedom Munitions with my order# and lot#.

"Set Back" is the proper term to describe that malady.

Those were reloaded, lacking enough neck tension.

Looks like Kash CA is free and clear of any pre 2019 manufacturing issues of Freedom Munitions.

            Salvagable effort?

Pull, deprime, full size or maybe neck size only.

This is apparently factory reload plinker ammo. Not BR quality by any means or expectations. With that in mind. And back checking posts to learn a bit about your skillset, and time at the bench.

No need for a complete DO OVER.

Use a kinetic puller. Every reloader should IMO have one "JIC" of stuff happens. Dump bullet/powder into scale pan.

Set up your FL sizer to just [neck size] the case. Can be done by "EYE" just short of shoulder.

Recharge, and finger pressure seat bullet in neck. Set in load block. Rinse repeat, until block is full.

Set up seat die to proper length. Test neck tension on first few or so. If sufficient you are GTG. If they slip, re-set die to give light crimp at desired OAL.

If bullets have cannelure. I would go ahead and give light crimp in cannelure to all.

I just pulled the 5 from the picture above. I can recover the projos and the powder (consistent charge of 27.1gr of unknown ball powder) but the brass is TRASH. All five have split necks. I have about 500+ to do. RCBS bullet puller + collet on the way.
I grabbed a few more from the lot and they are just coming out by pulling them apart with my hands.

Collet puller is best for sure. RCBS is what I also use. But have a kinetic also.

I myself, would do them in batches. Even though brand/type is unknown. You do know, that 27.1 gr is a safe load with those projectiles. So, living up to my handle. I would pacrat it and recharge the cases after neck sizing.

Again JM2c, I would keep that lot of cases separated. And give them a good look after, the after fix firing. I would also anneal them at that time.

Split necks guarantee loose bullets. But I'm curious why an entire lot of ammo is loose? Again JIC, I would mic the bullets. Even though 5 out of 1K cases isn't a bad average for cheap reloads.

500 out of 500, means there is more going on.

124 out of 570. Pulled most easily with just my hands and used kinetic for about a dozen that slipped deep enough that I couldn't pull manually.

Press checked what didn't have splits and they're all fine.

                    Bullets mic'd at .224

fun times. learning experience i guess.

I'm sure Freedom Arms ammo has great tail-light guarantee.
