    Surprise

I was digging thru my powder stores the other day.
I found some powder I did not know I even had. I knew I had a pound bottle and maybe 8 pound jug of IMR4895.
It turns out I have three of the 8 pound jugs of it. The bad part is I only use it for my M1 Garand and I do not shoot it much. I also have a lot of mil surplus ammo for it. I guess I might need to start looking at other loads for it.

What I needed was another 8 pounder of IMR4064 and RL22 as I use quite a bit of it and have only about 3 -4 pounds left.
Time to look in my books for loads with 4895 for my other cartridges and then go test them for accuracy and speed. That should keep me busy for awhile.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Or, buy new guns chambered in something that 4895 works particularly well in. Just an option. 😜

      That's the CalGuns Way.

OP might consider selling or trading that stuff off. Garand prices, ammo too, have never been higher.

I wish I could find an extra 20,000 small pistol primers.
I keep looking through my primer cabinet for them and they just are not there.

Remember that IMR4895 works well in *any* .30-06 rifle, not just M1 Garands. That Win 70, M1903 Springfield, Rem 700, Savage 110, and so on? Yep. It also works well in .308 Win. It's pretty versatile stuff.

You are fortunate to have had the foresight to buy that powder. While others are scrambling, you're good to go.

BTW...given that you have A.) plenty of milsurp ammo for it, and B.) plenty of powder to reload the cases...why not shoot your M1 Garand more?

I was looking through my primer stash late last year, I thought I had more small pistol primers. Then I remembered in April 2020 when the lockdowns started I loaded 15,000 rounds of 9mm ammo.

They mate in the spring. Keep looking.

Cowboy T--- I have done very little shooting of any type since the 1st of the years. This is because 1st I found out I have cancer. Then when getting a pre-surgery check up I found out I have a heart problem that they will not operate until it is fixed. I am trying to take care of that now. I need to take care of these things and get recovered because I have 3 out-of-state hunts later this year.
When I was younger I shot 30-06 and 308win a lot. Not so much now. I also have preferred loads for all my rifles/pistols that give me accuracy and speed for hunting and 4895 is not a powder I use. My 308win tends to like Win748/Benchmark and the 30-06 likes Win 760 and IMR4064. I may try and research using 4895 for those and a number of other cartridges I shoot.

Sounds like it's time to get a 300 win mag. IMR4895 is my go to powder for that round.

trailblazer87---I have one but use RL17 or IMR4350 in it. I also rarely shoot it as I have other cartridges I like better.

Ouch. May you, with good medical care, overcome these challenges and get back to good health, first and foremost. *WHEN*, not "if", that happens, I think you will find 4895 a good all-around choice for both .308 Win and .30-06, as well as several others.

Sounds like you need to buy an M14 and get that 4895 used up.

I have a M1a but I also have about 5,000 rounds of surplus for it. It is a fun rifle.

Just want to get feeling better and go shooting again. I have 9 rifles I have test loads to shoot.

Would also like to get out the two 50bmg rifles for some fun. Been way too long since I have shot them.

4895 will load nearly anything from .223 to 30-06 and it will load for 45-70 458 win mag/Lott and other straight walled cases. it is a very universal powder.
Wish I was closer I buy it of you
