Copper Plated Bullets and Octagonal Barrels?

It's my understanding that one should not shoot cast lead bullets through octagonal barrels, like that of Glock, HK, etc. Dunno if this is true, but it's b/c of lead build up which eventually causes overpressuring and catastrophic failure of the firearm. Do copper plated bullets leave this lead build up as well? Will shooting this plated stuff lead to a kaboom?
The way i see it is that copper plated is one small step from cast lead in the direction of FMJ...

    Thanks again!

I just looked into this myself yesterday. Seems that as long as you're not shooting max pressure and using a bullet with plating on the thicker side (XTreme/West Coast or Ranier) then you should be just fine.

My 9mm XTreme shooting at Rem/UMC target velocities (1075 fps or so out of my 3.5") will be just fine out of the Glock I'm getting out of lockup tomorrow.

At least, that's what I read Hopefully I don't KB.

I shoot lead almost exclusively through all my Glocks. With the right alloy, lube, and proper sizing, leading is a non-issue.

You won't have any trouble with plated bullets in polygonal rifling.

I shoot my berries platted bullets through my glock no problem. Just don't use the max load. I am somewhere between max and min for the powder I am using.

How many segments does a single Glock rifling land have?

                What if it has eight?

Excuse me, polygonal rifling, not octagonal barrels. I stand corrected... I don't remember enough about these things, hence the questions...

So i ought to be running min FMJ loads or regular lead cast loads for copper plated, right?
I was intending on using Rainer or X-treme. Is there a difference between all of these plated bullets and their thickness's?
Is this as simple as looking for fouling in the barrel to make sure stuff doesn't kaboom in my hand?

I use lead data for plated loads.

I also get more leading from open base FMJ's than I do plated bullets. Fouling should be a non-issue, completely.

Awesome, thanks doc. My gun will feel a lot safer at the range next time.
