The death knell is premature. The video did show a real difference in pressures. The rule not to shoot 5.56 in a 223 rifle still holds.

What was “hinted” was theyre may be no case difference so one might use then interchangeably, wink wink.

I have done something he mentioned. My range ammo is loaded to a hot 233. That way, I never have to sort for LC brass and feel its safe.

My Ruger SR556 manual specifies either .223 or 5.56 ammo.

556 is just a specification within the 223 family

Those of us that have been reloading 223 / 5.56 for many years have noticed 223 and 5.56 case volumes to be dependent on the brass manufacturer.

As the video shows, 223 marked brass can have less case volume than some 5.56 brass. As a reloader, you need to be aware of this in any cartridge you reload for.

As for the not to shoot 5.56 out of a SAAMI 223 chamber, it is a basic safety measure from the industry because of the short throat in the 223 Remington, you may find some 5.56 ammo that has been loaded with a bullet's ogive that could get shoved well into the lands of a 223 chamber like the Hornady 75 gr. 5.56 ammo shown in the video.

I have a Remington 700 V in 223 that i've shot since the early 1980's. I shot lots of the U S arsenal M-193 5.56 in that rifle with no pressure issues. I wouldn't shoot the newer, M-855 in it.
