    223 Powder

    I am new at reloading. I have some IMR 4198 but its not on the reloading data sheet I could fine for 55 gr FMJ .224 bullets. Does Bass Pro have powder in stock?

    Do you mean IMR 4198? If so, loading data is listed for it on Hodgdon's website:

    55 GR. SPR SP IMR IMR 4198 .224" 2.200" 18.8 2885 41,600 PSI 20.4 3122 53,600 PSI

      I use 4198 for my mini 14 loads. I love that powder.

        yup sorry. Unfortunately, the IMR listed on that website is for SP, but all I have is a lot of FMJs.

          Use the recipe for the weight not the projectile tip. They are the same.

          The only place you can go wrong is with plated (not jacketed) and lead projectiles.

            I usually go to the center of the load and stay there like this;

                    Use a starting load from the manual(s), as even though the weights might be the same, the bullet design/materials may cause a different pressure profile in your gun. That is also why it is good to consult more than one source.

                      Thanks guys. My reloading DVD gives directions to crimp the case at the bullet canalure. Th problem is if I seat the bullet to the proper over all length, you can no longer see the canalure. My factory round is the same same length but you can easily see the canalure. Any ideas?

                        Sounds like you need to trim your brass???

                        Some people don't crimp.

                        It really depends on the bullet's your reloading as well as the gun you are shooting it out of.

                        for more info

                            I put a factory load next to a reload bullet I had. Looks like the canalure is set a little deeper on the surplus bullet. I wonder if I can crimp without a canalure?

                              lol. weight and jacket/lead is all that matters. Physics doesn't care if the bullet is hollowpoint, SP, TC, SPBT, or plastic-tipped.
