Reloads claim another Glock, pics added post 20

Sorry I could not get pics. We had an Action Pistol Orientation today @ USI in Concord. One of the students was shooting reloads. He & a couple of buddys went in to buy equipment & start reloading. Last exercise of the day, His Glock blew up. Split the barrel on the top of the chamber, Broke the slide open along the extractor. Not sure if it tweaked the frame. The shooter lucked out w/ a small cut on his trigger finger & bruising along his index finger & palm.

He said he had not made the reloads, his buddy had. Be careful out there People!

Gee thanks.... I just started reloading for my Glock 22(40s&w). Luckily it seems to shoot best right at the starting load.

Sounds like the classic Double Charge.

I NEVER shoot anyone elses reloads for that very reason.

Yep! Bad enough to blow up your gun when it's your own fault!

& it probably was a double charge.

I am amazed how many people are willing to risk life and limb, not to mention a nice gun, by taking the advise of others or using reloads that haven't been worked up in their gun, by them.

It seems a bunch of people jump into reloading to save cash and have no real clue what their getting into.

It's a shame, and dangerous too boot.

Glad the shooter is OK, it's a tough lesson learned, but a lesson that will be remembered for life, and hopefully he can preach the dangers of reloading and the importance of knowlege and safety.

I shot action pistol in Concord for a while, it's a great club with good people.

Bruceflinch is a cool handle but I doubt you flinch, Bruce.

Then he should not have shot them! although I have and will shoot other people's reloads. They are people who I litteraly trust with my life. Sort of like climbing and letting someone else tie your knots for you. You better trust that person period. If anything fails, you as the shooter, climber or whatever, assumed the risks associated with your actions and can not blame anyone else. Either follow the safety rule and don't shoot someone else's loads or, don't blame anyone but yourself when something goes wrong.

I've told my friends they can't shoot my reloads. But they can use my equipment, books, components, and I'll show them what little I know.

In all seriousness though. Your not supposed to shoot lead bullets from a glock because of the octagonal Barrel/Rifling. It causes build up in the barrel that can lead to problems

If so, hopefully it was an aftermarket barrel with traditional rifling.

If you load one round at a time, checking for errors as you go along, you won't KB your Glock. If you load on a progressive while drinking beer and watching CSI reruns, well...

What model or caliber Glock he was shooting?

I you use a powder that will almost fill the case with a single charge and over flow with a double charge it can help prevent this. This is why I like Unique in 9mm.
