People who want some ammo to practice or defend with their new gun bought after 2020 are happy, it's there. People who have been shooting before 19xx will never be happy because inflation is a constant and therefore prices for the most part have always gone up. Unless there is a huge force or change in politics, manufacturing or a huge drop in price of some resource. When they find this resource are they going to want to drop prices or just limit production? New ammo companies would have to also control the resources and lower production costs in order to make a significant difference in price. But they didn't build a new ammo plant to make cheaper ammo, they did it to make the higher profit from ammo. Old ammo companies want high prices because that's what their shareholders want, profit. But who ever wanted to race to the bottom of price hike bonanza? Is someone going to convince others to not buy ammo so prices drop so they can in turn go buy those same ammo for less a few weeks or months down the line? I'd bet that ammo factories aren't running 24/7 to meet demand and overproduce to drop ammo prices. They only did that during the pandemic to sell more high priced ammo.

The other secret is they were probably always running 24/7. They made a few videos during the crunch to keep the fear high. We need an actual ammo plant insider to tell us the real story.

I feel for the ones who still buy ammo as prices are terrible realitively speaking. I still have some .15 9mm and .25 45acp I have reloaded as well as .50 6.5creed ELDMs but my 223 and 308 jumped up obviously. Still load those at around .25 and .45 respectively. Went crazy and purchased a crap ton of 7.62x39 Varmageddons which was about .45 loaded.

At this point ammo has come way down since Covid. Pricing on the internet proves that. If you buy manufactured reloaded ammo (I get mine from Miwall) it can be cheaper than re-loading your own. Yes I just said that. My friend who I happily will buy his reloaded ammo told me last night that , "I can't match Miwalls price. My component cost is more than Miwalls sales price." A simple pressure of ammoseek will prove that.

The only reloads I ever bought were from Freedom Munitions, but after getting a number of 40SW cartridges from them that looked like the attached, I swore off reloads forever.

I just visited Miwall's website and it looks like they resell other mfrs ammo more than their own reloads, and more cheaply than their own. Not understanding the appeal there...??

They're going to keep most of that ammo for a long time at those prices.

Every last Californian who enjoys and practices marksmanship should have some sort of reloading press. You're seeing just one example of why here.
Issue I've had is finding powder for what I do shoot. No one has it locally.

It's hard for me to go along with this when primers aren't easy to buy (locally) and they cost 3x what they did 3-4 years ago..

I'm flush with the stuff I don't reload (22LR and short, 12ga and 7.62x54r) I ran out of LPP last week and haven't seen them in stock locally for a year or more.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

You'd be surprised at what people fork over money for.

Every 3rd or 4th trip to the LGS I see someone buying a box or two of 9mm FMJ for $35/box, or 45ACP for $50/box. I guess someone has to keep the LGSs in business...

I had to bite the bullet and buy primers for my reloading for the going rate of $100/box. I had been buying pre-pandemic with each gun show, but even now, that stock is dwindling.

For me, the break point is $16 per box of 9mm from brick and mortar stores. The hazmat and shipping, along with the LGS fee for an ammo transfer, make buying online almost the same as when the deals are at my LGS.

I just find it sad that our own community is our own worst enemy. When you price gouge, it hurts us all and only diminishes our ability to enjoy the 2A.

You need an ammo+ membership at TargetSportsUSA. No shipping, no hazmat (what's that?), and all ammo is 8% off regular prices. With ammo+ you never pay shipping, no matter what the quantity. They do charge tax though.

What does your LGS charge for ammo xfer? Can't be too much...

Hazmat is for the primers - which TSA does charge $30 for.

Ones that buy ammo from the buy and sell section here. Then it?s a good deal. 🤣

My thoughts exactly. I won?t consider the ammo shortage over until prices get close to what they were pre Biden. Including prices on powder and primers.

IF they ever get close again. I recall during the OBummer ammo shortage, that was a true ammo shortage, the prices didn't seem to go up that much but availability was really low for a long time.

This shortage was really different, not only was there hardly any availability of certain rounds at all, when it was available the prices went up by 300-400% from what they were the year before.

With inflation and the Potato trying to crater the economy, I doubt we will ever see those pre-Biden prices again. But who knows? If we get a Pro 2A administration next year, I suppose ammo prices could come down to reasonable levels again?
