Reloading Data/Advice Needed Tite Group .45 FMJ RN

I've only used Unique in my .45 230's so far and I had perfect luck with 1.25" oal and 5.5g powder, but I haven't found any in awhile and recently picked up some Tite Group from Hodgdon.

I went to Hodgdons sight and the only data for 230 was for lrn, and flat point. This is going to be going through a TRP Operator with an 18# recoil spring, so a little on the hot side is where I like to be.

Bullets: Berry's 230 FMJ RN Double Struck
    OAL: 1.25"
    Powder: Hodgdon Titegroup
    Press: Dillon RL550b
Primers: Winchester, or CCI I have enough of either

It's hard for me to step it all the way down to well under 5.0 grains to start reloading after I've been doing 5.5-6.0g of Unique all of this time. I have a Speer reloading manual as well as a lyman manual and neither of them have data specifically for 230 fmj with titegroup.

Any data/reloading advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I've heard that. With ammo including reloading components being so scarce I rarely shoot more than 100 rounds when I do shoot of any caliber, so I haven't had much opportunity to see how dirty unique is.

I am working up a load with Titegroup since I could not find bullseye.

First, the min load is 4.2 gr and the max load for titegroup with 230 gr bullets is 4.8 gr.

I made 100 rounds with 4.7 gr over. Lrn 230 gr bullet. Results - accuracy was good but recoil was much more than I wanted for plinking.

I then made 100 rounds at 4.6 gr which had an equal accuracy but recoil was just a little less.

I then tried 4.5 gr and accuracy was par but recoild was getting closer to what I am use to. I think this is the proper load for me but plan to try another with 4.4 grs.

            I plan to

Well I plan on making all of my ammo for plinking/shtf ammo, so a little more recoil doesn't bug me at all. I'll start out with the 4.7g and take it from there. I called up a guy that reloads for a living he uses 4.5g of tg and his are a little light, so with what you said and what he said 4.7g sounds like the way to go.
              Thank You

Hornady 7th Edition lists Titegroup w/230gr.fmj .45acp at 4.9gr for 800fps and 5.2 gr max load for 850fps. They list Unique for the same bullet at 6.1gr max for 850fps.Back in the day I used to push a 200gr lead swc with 6.5 gr of Unique. That really smoked.

If it's faster powder, use less.

Been using 4.4 grs.of Titegroup behind 230 gr FMJRN for quite some time now.Very accurate and clean burning in my 2 kimbers and my P220 , all running stock recoil springs and function fine with very managable recoil.

I found my sweet spot for my .45's seems to be 1.250" and I tried the rounds that I made with 4.7g of titegroup with Berry's 230g fmj rn and they worked perfectly. Thanks for all the info guys

I know you have the Titegroup already but if you can use it for something else, I highly recommend:
