Hambam why do you say no plated bullets ? Are they functionally different than FMJ ? I have 500 roundnose Berryman plated to load in the near future. I have Winclean 244 and it has done well in 9mm Luger so far. Clean by the way.

Hodgdon reloading center has data for that combination but they are 2.9gr to 3.2gr of HP-38 or 231 under a 95gr speer FMJ.

Yeah I did and took it into consideration, while looking into this load I found the data to be all over the map. Like I said in an earlier post, most recipes I saw by people reloading this combo was between 3.2 and 3.5. The Hodgdon loads are on the mild side and Speer on the high side.

I’m going to be going with the Hodgdon max at 3.2, will be a good training round for my little LCP backup guns. Thanks for posting it, I appreciate it.

In the olden-days when I used American factory FMJ .380s those cartridges were stout. So unless there as
been a change, I'd be a bit concerned about not going too far with homeloads exceeding U.S. factory .380
cartridges. I think you are within the limits so go have fun.

I have concerns with plated, any plated, bullet for reloading purposes.

All of the commercial plated bullet manufactures remain excellent cast bullet manufactures. These small Mom & Pop
businesses needed to expand their businesses to meet the demands of customers who wanted the appearance of
FMJs with the cost of cast.

No matter how hard the manufactures try, they do not have the strict quality controls when producing plated bullets
as compared to producing straight cast bullets. It is not about effort on the manufactures part, rather it is about
the process in which the plated bullets are created.

And the end product, a plated bullet, is intrinsically inferior to a quality cast bullet.

So what exactly is the problem with Berryman plated 115g .355 roundnose ? My use is acquiring lots of practice, not defensive stopping or competition shooting. If I was really bored I could weigh and measure a statistically valid sample number but I have you. What is wrong with these bullets ? - thanks

I load plated for 9mm, 380acp, and 45acp - strictly target and practice. All bullets are from X-treme bullets (115gr RN, 100gr RNFP, and 230gr RN, respectively). Never had an issue so I'm following this thread for more details into their possible inferiority to cast. Thanks!

PS my 380 load for 100grain plated RNFP is 3.4gr W231 at 0.960" COAL. Runs about 850fps. Never had a FTF in my P238, P232, P230, or CZ83.

And Reloaders and Shooters everywhere should never try to live up to my expectations.
