Whats your 308 Match Load?

Hello

I'm working up a load for my Remington 700 SPS in 308. Its not a bull barrel but I still like to shoot it from the bench and try and get little groups, or to hit the steel out at about 400 yards at the range.

I'm new to reloading rifle ammo so here is my first load I'm trying.

I'm using once fired federal brass, winchester primers, Varget powder and Speer 168 bthp bullets. Today I'm loading a bunch of different powder weights to go test out and see what groups the best. I wanted to use Sierra Matchkings but didn't see any in stock.

Anyone else use Speer 168gr bullets in a 308? If so, whats your load.

SMKs have been grabbed up by everyone, i havent seen 168's in at midway yet.
I got 175s and 155s but thats it.

I just shot some 69 gr SMKs with my varminter rifle and got these results.
If you have redding type s match dies, get them.

As for my 308, i havent taken the time to do a good load yet.

Brass: Winchester
Primer: CCI BR2
Powder: 44.7gr Varget
Bullet: 175gr. SMK
OAL: 2.850"

Brass prep:
- Trim
- Uniform & Deburr primer pocket/flash hole
- Inside chamfer
- VLD chamfer
- Outside chamfer
- Clean the outside of brass

I'll try and get some pics up but this is a sweet load in my SPS Varmint. You can get SMK's from either Freedom Gunworks or better yet, give a serious look to the 155 Berger's. They've got CCI BR2 primers too.

1 MOA sometimes more sometimes less, but not by much.

Play with different primers, powder weights, and seating depths.
The smallest change can make a HUGE difference.

Notes: Bug holes at 100 opening to about .75 by 300. Good short range load.
